@kmariepat-cityfriends - RE: As a Veteran, I want to learn about Provider Core Training and what it means.
For clarification purposes: I don't think that the Facility Locator app itself will/should house this content. Instead we will use or link out to content that solves this problem. I'm not sure if this content currently exists in the modernized experience (but it might) so we need to coordinate with the content/IA/accessibility team so that 1/ They prioritize either migrating or creating this content OR 2/ lead us to where the SSOT lives so we can link out to/use that.
@davidconlon got it, thank you for confirming. I added an implementation note above to clarify how design is solutioning that user story the area for Veterans to learn about Provider core training will not be housed in facility locator, you should design a link/call to action etc. for Veterans to click or otherwise engage that will link them out to this information that is housed elsewhere
I am ready to assign this to Jordan once you answer this question. I specified mobile first design, but we do want mobile AND desktop designs ahead of moving into usability for this feature correct?
@kmariepat-cityfriends for Filtering: we are looking for a design pattern that will allow us to increase filtering capabilities ongoing including:
Also for the "Service type" component.
National Cemetery
As a Veteran, I want to filter by state to see all National Cemeteries in a given state
Change to:
All VA Facilities
Good call - you're right we should probably do both mobile and desktop. Start with mobile though.
@davidconlon Ok I made some more updates to the card taking into account all of the feedback you provided above, feel free to review:
I do have 2 more clarifying questions for things I did not understand fully and have yet to incorporate:
Other ??? (unknown, but a pattern that will allow us to scale)
...
the other items in your list are filter types (modality and provider core training)...Are you saying Jordan should design in a way that does not limit us to a static amount of filters and more intentionally considers what adding 4-6 additional filters would look like (beyond the ones we know we need today). What exactly are you referring to scaling here, the filter count? or something else?
Urgent care, emergency, and pharmacy that show the "mashups" of 3 (all, VA-only, Comm-care only)
Is this comment about making sure Veterans have a clear label alerting them to if the provider result is VA-only vs. Comm-care only AND subsequently potentially allowing the Veteran to filter by either of those options?Leaving a note here that @thejordanwood has picked up this card and is starting on it with plenty to work on while waiting for clarity on my above questions from @davidconlon
@kmariepat-cityfriends Do we have a list of the 90 health care services? I wanted to explore if they could be grouped in any way.
@thejordanwood here are the VA services as of today. you should be able to filter these to see what applies to VAMC vs Vet Center etc.
Notes from follow up with @davidconlon everytime we have a filtering request we don't need to go back through design collab cycle input, overall design pattern to account for X number of filters
Consult with the content IA accessibility team to determine better dynamic names for service type
cc @thejordanwood I will ping on this card when I update the AC I will ping here again
ok @thejordanwood I updated the card with 2 new user stories to solve for on this card:
As a Facilities Product Manager, I want to be able to add several new filters to facility locator without needing to go through another design review (there should be a new design pattern that considers scalability of number of filters)
As a Veteran, I want the filter titles to make sense to me so that I can more easily navigate the facility locator tool (background: the service type filter doesn't make sense for every use case of facility type selected, work with the content IA accessibility team to find better terms for some of the groupings, see images attached below for reference)
Update 3/28
Created wireframes and reviewed solutions with development. Started creating high-fi mockups in this Sketch file. There are still functionality and accessibility considerations to work out on this and I expect more rounds of iterations to come.
Update 4/11
Had meeting with Laura on 4/8 to review accessibility questions and concerns. Will work on another iteration of this in the next sprint.
@kmariepat-cityfriends I made another iteration on this based on the feedback that Laura gave in her initial accessibility review. This is ready to be reviewed again.
@kmariepat-cityfriends I made updates in the Sketch file based on the feedback we got in the design review meeting on Tuesday.
Moving to PO Review for Kamari's visibility
Moving to done, next design review not scheduled, awaiting confirmation from @davidconlon on if @mmiddaugh should be in attendance
Background:
In a 3/7 meeting with Dave Conlon we went over updates that we would like to make to facility locator. The user stories for those requested updates are below Meeting recording here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XbflgbldfyxrO619ZMVuEb-gpEmOP7QY?usp=share_link
User Stories
Provider Core Training
All of the following user stories in this group are related to using facility locator to search for
community providers in VA's network
the other facility types are not in the MVP scope for this effort.Implementation Notes:
For background, here is a blurb on Provider Core Training: Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has created the Provider Core Training so that Veterans can be offered care from the highest quality providers available. Referring Veterans to Providers who have completed the Provider Core Training ensures that Veterans are receiving high-quality care in the community.
Updated Filtering
Implementation Notes: The v1 migration and current experience overall creates multiple cases we need to plan for:
community providers in VA's network
facility type results in over 800 (unusable) type-ahead options, how can this experience be made betterOther ??? (unknown, but a pattern that will allow us to scale) Urgent care, emergency, and pharmacy that show the "mashups" of 3 (all, VA-only, Comm-care only) Benefits with TBD number
VA Facility by State
Acceptance Criteria
[ ] Build designs in sketch
[ ] Mobile first design, followed by desktop. The priority should be to optimize the mobile experience and start with these designs then move on to designing desktop
[ ] Review with @kmariepat-cityfriends and iterate if necessary
[ ] @kmariepat-cityfriends to schedule a review with Dave Conlon when Jordan reports this work as complete
[ ] I expect to see designs enabling each of the following user stories to be fulfilled:
User Stories to design a solution to
[ ] As a Veteran, I want to see what Providers have completed Provider Core Training
[ ] As a Veteran, I want to learn about Provider Core Training and what it means
[ ] As a Veteran, I want to filter my search in the Facility Locator to return only providers who have received the Provider Core Training
[ ] As a Veteran, I want to have more filtering capabilities, in part made possible after the facilities v1 migration
[ ] As a Veteran, I want to have a filtering experience for Service type that is usable and consistent whether I am selecting from 5 items or 800
[ ] As a Veteran, I want to be able to know what VA facilities are in a given state
[ ] As a Veteran, I want to be able to know what VA facilities of a certain type are in a given state (e.g. Medical, Vet Center, Benefits, Cemetery)
[ ] As a Facilities Product Manager, I want to be able to add several new filters to facility locator without needing to go through another design review (there should be a new design pattern that considers scalability of number of filters)
[ ] As a Veteran, I want the filter titles to make sense to me so that I can more easily navigate the facility locator tool (background: the service type filter doesn't make sense for every use case of facility type selected, work with the content IA accessibility team to find better terms for some of the groupings, see images attached below for reference)
