508-defect-2

Feedback framework

Point of Contact

VFS Point of Contact: Josh Kim

User Story or Problem Statement

As a user with cognitive considerations and/or as a user with a screen reader, I expect the purpose of the link to be clear from the link text.

Details

There are several links on this page that are not clear from the link text alone. This may not have been caught due to the content being in Spanish. Some examples include:

Acceptance Criteria

Definition of done

  1. Review and acknowledge feedback.
  2. Fix and/or document decisions made.
  3. Accessibility specialist will close ticket after reviewing documented decisions / validating fix.

Environment

Steps to Recreate

  1. Visit https://www.va.gov/coronavirus-veteran-frequently-asked-questions-esp/
  2. If needed, translate the page to English
  3. Scan all questions and confirm some links require rewriting

Solution

Rewrite links that do not explain their purpose within the link text alone.

WCAG or Vendor Guidance (optional)

@SKasimow @youngfreezyVA I can look at the content team fixing this since it's updating content in Drupal. Will likely be in backlog for a bit due to bandwidth.

SKasimow commented 3 years ago

A content-side change is required (non--dev)

DanielleThierryUSDSVA commented 3 years ago

@SKasimow For your awareness, I've started an issue to get clarity around accessible in-context links here: https://app.zenhub.com/workspaces/vft-59c95ae5fda7577a9b3184f8/issues/department-of-veterans-affairs/va.gov-team/20599

Once we have that fully defined, the content team will update links.

Hi @RLHecht @lunascoop. Raising this as a priority for this coming week. Would you mind setting up a half hour on Monday for the 3 of us to go through this ticket? Thank you!

joshkimux commented 3 years ago

@DanielleThierryUSDSVA Let me or Angela know if y'all need an accessibility specialist on that call too. We're more than happy to explain the need in more details 😄

lunascoop commented 3 years ago

@RLHecht I'm still working on the Tagalog page, but you can begin reviewing the English and Spanish pages.

lunascoop commented 3 years ago

@RLHecht Here's the Tagalog page:

Hi @joshkimux! Apologies. I missed your note above re: offering to join the call.

Wanted to let you know that the content team has done a bunch of work on the English version of this page, both to update the links to match the linking pattern we defined together in issue #20599 and to make some long-overdue content/ux updates.

This is a preview of the page changes that the team will publish on Monday once it's had a final copy edit. Feel free to take a look: http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=3014 (note that you need to be signed into the VA network to access the preview)

Once this latest content is back from the translators, the team will update the Spanish and Tagalog pages to match. So probably a week or so.

Thanks for all your great collaboration on solidifying the link pattern. And feel free to reach out with questions, thoughts, etc. Thanks!
