Open mrblanco1 opened 2 years ago
@mrblanco1 Review has been scheduled for January 25th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ET. Please forward the invite to any other VFS attendees if needed. Thanks!
hi @mrblanco1 - I saw you rescheduled a Design Intent using this same ticket. We currently only support 1 of each Collab Cycle touchpoint per product/iteration. Did you want to have a 2nd Design Intent with us or were you intending to schedule a Midpoint Review?

Hi @shiragoodman - We are ready for your team to review the recommended solutions/wireframes so our Development team can begin working on this feature. Do we just provide the wireframes here for approval?
@mrblanco1 we don't provide approval on anything and you don't need our approval. We're here to simply guide you to building products/features that meet the VA.gov standards. If you're confident in your wireframes, you are free to move forward.

Thank you for your feedback. We are good to go then. We will schedule a mid-point review once we are ready. Thanks!
Hello all. Comparison Tool EDU provided feedback to us related to the latest recommended solution. They reviewed the wireframes and decided not to move in that direction. EDU found this solution too complicated for Veterans: making them navigate through two new pages, making selections, extra navigation and clicks, for a temporary form. They provided guidance and decided to add a simple link that will open the pdf including the list of High Demand Occupations, nothing else. Per education's feedback, AFS will begin adding a simple link (text will be provided by EDU) on the VRRAP form. The link will open an updated version of the pdf. Veterans will be able to close the pdf by clicking an X located on the top/right corner of the file. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you. Abe B.
Hello. We have a new and final wireframe for this solution. This is what VA EDU decided they want for VRRAP:
I will schedule a mid-design-review sometime next week. Thank you.

Hello Design team! Thank you for having met with me yesterday 3/08/2022. Quick update, EDU provided some requirements updates and this final version of adding the High Demand Occupations list to the electronic version of the VRRAP form they came up with.
After having it presented to your design team it was noted that adding such a large pdf will add accessibility issues, especially for disabled Veterans.
I am going to reach out to EDU tomorrow 3/10/2022 and provide them feedback and the recommended solution (initial Design Team recommendation). I will keep you posted and let you know what the outcome is/was.
Action items for me: 1) Schedule a mid-point review 2) Reach out to AFS's UX team and ask them for a full "screenshot" of the current (in production) VRRAP Form, replacing the Program information with the suggested by EDU solution.
Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions.
Hello Design team! Please find a Full Form View wireframe here and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Confirmed You are scheduled with Shira Goodman. Design Intent or Midpoint Review 10:00am - 10:30am, Tuesday, March 15, 2022 Central Time - US & Canada
Hi @mrblanco1 , thank you for the updated screens, it is great to see the whole form.
Sarah and Martha added some accessibility concerns in regards to the PDF link in their feedback ticket linked to this epic. I understand you have been working with edu leadership. Please feel free to have them reach out to Kevin Hoffman if they have any questions about the feedback..
@mrblanco1 as I've stated before, we only have the capacity to do 1 touchpoint per team per feature/iteration. If you'd like to schedule a Midpoint Review, please follow the Midpoint Review guidance. We can keep the 3/15 meeting, but we do need you to open another ticket. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Shira! No problem @shiragoodman - the reason why I scheduled it is because that was the direction I was given from the Design team last Monday. I can cancel and keep moving forward with Dev if that is what we need to do. Matt Self, EDU, and AFS have a meeting today to go through this solution and for them to come to a final decision. We will keep you posted. Thank you!
@mrblanco1 I believe the direction they gave you was to open a Midpoint Review ticket, not to reschedule the Design Intent as we already had that meeting. If you're not able to open up a Midpoint Review ticket by EOD, I will be cancelling the Tuesday 3/15 meeting. Please let me know.
Hello all. A new proposal from EDU was provided to AFS. We put together a wireframe for your review and feedback please. This solution has instructions for Veterans to obtain their Program Name and HDO Code from VA.gov before they can proceed with the VRRAP form. A link will navigate them to an existing VA.gov page where they can obtain this information, nothing new was added. If you could please share your feedback we would appreciate it.

Hi @mrblanco1 , thank you for trying to find another solution. Can you provide some additional info?
Thanks! Allison
Hi @mrblanco1, I'm the content lead for VBA on the sitewide content team. I'd like to work with you so the content here meets plain language standards and aligns with our VA.gov voice and style. The collab cycle loops us in generally after design intent if a product team hasn't met with us yet. That's why I'm in the mix now! If you get our input at this point, it'll help you get through the next check point with the collab cycle (midpoint) more smoothly. The collab cycle content contributor will provide feedback on what's meeting/not meeting the standards at midpoint review.
I know you've been navigating this process, ticket creation, etc., so I'd like to help you out and have my team create the content ticket. @RLHecht, our editor, will open the content ticket for you and will tag you on that.
@artsymartha68 @mrblanco1 Also, I believe I have a solution to the concern about the PDF. The last proposal to send the user to the VRRAP informational page then have them click on a link to that same PDF still isn't a great user experience. I have someone on my team who could, by early next week, create a new webpage in Resources and Support that you could link to instead. This page would have all the HDOs with their codes.
@mrblanco1 @bethpottsVADEPO I created a ticket for Sitewide Content #39511 to do a plain language edit of this page and its form labels. I'll open a separate ticket for our team to create the new Resources and Support page with the list that's currently on the PDF. Once that page is created, we can provide you with the url.
@mrblanco1 I work from Seattle and am online by 10:00 ET if you could check in about the link to the HDO info/codes sometime in the morning. I can show you what a new webpage would look like. It would solve the accessibility concerns--we wouldn't need to link to the PDF, but could instead link to this new VA.gov webpage.
Hello and thank you for your feedback. Here are the answers to your questions @allison0034:
Thank you @bethpottsVADEPO for your help. It would be great if once you have your proposed solution and text you could directly share with EDU in a meeting so you two can directly communicate and make a final decision. I can help facilitate a meeting and save us all lots of time. Thanks.
@mrblanco1 That sounds great! We could try for Friday of this week or next Monday or Tuesday. Would you mind setting that up?
Here's the in-progress page that would eliminate the need to link to the PDF if you'd like to get a sense of it (you have to be on the VA network for this preview link to work): http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=44840 I also think we should link to this new page from the intro page to the form under "Prepare" (along the lines of "go find the code you need").
I'd also like to shorten the instruction text and apply plain language standards to some of the labels above the fields users are filling in. I'll have some suggestions to run by education service.
Thank you. I had a chance to review the provided page and it is similar to what the first recommended solution OCTO/Plarform made (adding two pages). Something I noticed is that all Programs are listed in this one page which was not well accepted by the OCTO/Platform team since it would take a long time for someone using a screen reader to go through the entire list. Maybe there is something else you can propose?
Once again, thanks for all the help, IEDU is just trying to get to a final solution, just like they had already proposed.
I think having a conversation between you/your team and EDU will probably help.
Do you have an email address I can send you a meeting invite?
Thank you!
@mrblanco1 Was the feedback you received about all programs listed on one page referring to the content in the PDF? Having the content on a webpage should work just fine for screen readers since they can jump from one H2 to the next. I did talk to my colleague @artsymartha68 about this approach. I believe she's one of the OCTO leads who gave you the initial feedback to not link to a PDF. But please let me know if there's more to the story here!
@allison0034 are there any details you could fill in about the design intent convo regarding "all programs listed on one page"?
My email is: beth.potts@va.gov --thank you for setting up the meeting @mrblanco1
Beth and I chatted and we agreed this is the least bad option/layout. Hiding each section in accordions, for example, would make it difficult to do a find on the page. Those accordions probably don't pop open automatically. So yes there is one long page but it's organized and each sub-section is now alphabetized vs having the number at the beginning of each item.

I think this approach will work for EDU. I am going to forward a meeting invite for Monday at 1:00pm EST. This is one of two weekly meetings EDU/AFS/OCTO Matt Self attend. We will allocate some time for this approcah and to have a conversation with EDU. Thank you again!
Thanks @mrblanco1! Appreciate it.
Update: We're waiting to get a thumbs up from EDU stakeholders about the recommendations/approach I went over with them in their 4/11 meeting. Basic summary is:
1/ Link to the new webpage instead of the PDF. 2/ Significantly shorten the text under "Program information" on the new screen addressing HDO. 3/ Add a "Note" to the intro for the education form under "Prepare" in the subway map so that we prompt Veterans to go get their job type/code before even diving into the form.
I also want to note here that I have edits to the labels on the new screen. These are small details that I didn't think warranted discussion in the meeting, but I'm posting them here:
What type of high-demand job do you want training for?
What’s the code for that high-demand job? Where do I find the code? (additional info component)
What type of degree or certificate program do you want to get? @LeelahHolmes Could this be radio buttons?:
Contact information for the school or training provider (include the name, full address, and telephone number with area code)
Estimated start date for training (MM/DD/YYYY)
Is the program in-person, online, or both?
