@RLHecht Here are the 3 pages for this part of the work:
http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=884
http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=889
http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=885
A few notes:
@katherine-fung Here are the pages. Let me know when you're done and I'll take a read through them as well.
Hi @DanielleThierryUSDSVA,
Randi and I are going over the pages. We ran into a few questions:
Hi @katherine-fung!
On node 884, I wanted to shorten this link text [Learn about service in the Southwest Asia theater of military operations and Gulf War Illness] to "Learn about service in Southwest Asia and Gulf War Illness." I noticed node 885 has the shortened link text - just wanted to confirm that the shortened link text is ok?
This H2 is a little over 70 characters, but I think it makes sense to keep it as is. Can you confirm? "What are the presumptive conditions for service in Afghanistan and certain other areas?"
Is there a reason to say "within 10 years of your separation from active military service" instead of "within 10 years of your last day on active duty"? The latter might be easier from people to compute, but I don't want to conflate the two if they are different.
@DanielleThierryUSDSVA Katherine and I finished reviewing these and they're ready for you!
Hi @RLHecht @megzehn. I'm going to start adding pages here for copy editing.
First one (one of the ones that the team reviewed before but has more changes): http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=884
@RLHecht @megzehn Next page: http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=885
Okay! @RLHecht @megzehn these pages are ready for a copy edit:
Feel free to reach out with questions as you edit!
Hi! End of day status update: the first one is copyedited: http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=884
I will review the other 2 asap. Are we ok with the passive voice phrase "got diagnosed" on these? I left it for now, but let me know if it would be better to swap it.
I'm also leaving these in draft mode for now per the ticket instructions. Thanks!
Good morning, @megzehn!
Another one for you this morning: http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=873
And more to come today!
Note just for the ticket: "got diagnosed" question resolved via slack.
Thanks!
Here are 2 where we're just going to add an alert for "Day 0" (when the law passes). So just need a check that all looks well with the alert on these pages:
http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=871 http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=886
For this page, I've removed the existing alert about adding bladder cancer and 2 other conditions and moved that to an accordion ("What if VA denied my claim for bladder cancer...") and then added the new PACT Act alert:
http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=874
These are the changes we'll make to this page on "Day 0." We'll make more changes moving forward.
And just to reiterate: All of these pages must stay as drafts until the law passes and we get the go-ahead to publish. It's critical that we don't publish early. Thanks!
Thanks, @DanielleThierryUSDSVA!
Updates:
These 3 are copyedited and in draft form: http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=884 http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=885 http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=889
I also reviewed the alert on the pages you listed. I changed the placeholder date from June XX to July XX, since it hasn't passed yet, right?
And I reviewed the new accordion on the Agent Orange exposure article.
I'll turn to this one next! http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=873
Ah, great call on "July" - yes!
Thanks so much for the status update!
Hi @DanielleThierryUSDSVA! I finally looked at the Exposure to hazardous chemicals post, and these are my questions:
Examples in the post: "If you served in Afghanistan, you may be at risk of certain illnesses or other conditions linked to this region.” “If you served at Camp Lejeune or MCAS New River between August 1953 and December 1987, you may be at risk for certain illnesses believed to be caused by contaminants found in the drinking water during that time.”
Let me know if there’s a different preference or a distinction I’m missing.
Does this mean the same thing?
“If you served in the military—or in certain related jobs—in the Republic of Vietnam or in or near the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) during the Vietnam Era, you may have had contact with Agent Orange, an herbicide used to clear plants and trees during the war.”
@megzehn Danielle went over these on the call we just had.
For 1, yes to changing these all to "at risk of." Good catch!
For 2, we'll leave this content as is. The edit changes the meaning, making it incorrect. We'll leave as is but can revisit at a later date maybe taking out the last part about the herbicide so it makes it a shorter sentence.
Thanks for the notes, @RLHecht!
Hi, @RLHecht @laurwill @megzehn. Coming back to this part of the work now that we've launched the main page! I'm going to list pages in this ticket as I have them ready. If we can please make this the top priority for the morning on 8/4, that would be much appreciated. Thank you!!
I'm listing these in priority order:
Exposures to burn pits and other specific hazardous materials - This is ready for an errors and omissions review. Please review against the language on the main page.
Exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials: Ready for copy edit. I added burn pit info in the relevant description and alphabetized list. We had also changed the links from the headers to "Learn more" links a while back for greater accessibility but never published those updates, so we should check those too.
Hi @DanielleThierryUSDSVA --
I copyedited these 2 and went through the pre-pub checklist. I did not publish, but they should be ready to go!
Awesome!! Thank you so much, @megzehn! I will add more as they're ready for you.
Update for team tracking and alignment:
@megzehn @laurwill @RLHecht I'm going to start posting more pages. If you can please prioritize so we can move these along asap, I would appreciate it. Thank you!
Good morning, @megzehn @laurwill @RLHecht. A bit of a change of plans on the Agent Orange page. As I was preparing to send this to SMEs, I was thinking about the fact that this is a very long page and a new group of SMEs and I'm worried that a review of integrated content changes may take several days. We need to get the basics of the information up now. So, I put our latest version into a word doc and sent that to our SMEs for review. But, I also told them that for today, we are going to simply put up an alert with previously approved content so that we can have the basics up there for folks who come to this page.
This means I had to revert the page to an earlier version. But all of your/our work is captured in the Word doc so it's not lost! We'll flow it in once we have the approval.
For this morning: Could you please review the latest preview just to look at:
Thank you!
@megzehn @laurwill Here is the burn pit page back from SME with changes we need to implement. Laura, can you input them and Megan you copyedit? Note that we aren't removing the post-9/11 reference as they had originally suggested.

Hi @DanielleThierryUSDSVA - Confirming that the changes in the Agent Orange post look good and have been published. And the burn pit page has been updated and copyedited. It's still in drafts.
Thank you, @megzehn! I'm awaiting the final go-ahead on burn pits. As soon as I get it, I'll let you know!
Hi @megzehn @RLHecht @laurwill. Could you please review the new alert and related link on this page? Thank you! http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=855
Hi @DanielleThierryUSDSVA! Confirming that we reviewed the alert and related link on this page, and they look good: http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=855
We're leaving in drafts for now. Thank you!
Update: nodeId=855 is now live!
Hi @megzehn! Could you review the new alert on the radiation page? http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=886. This is the first step in updating this page. Thank you!
Hi @DanielleThierryUSDSVA - we reviewed and copyedited the alert on nodeId=886. I left it as a draft, but let me know if you want me to change the status.
Thanks!
Thank you, @megzehn! Go ahead and publish. Thanks!
Here's another for review: http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=48211. Note that this is a new page I'm recommending to combine 2 previously separate pages. I'll also be sending along updates of those 2 previously separate pages for copy editing because they'll be our interim editing approach. Thanks!
Hi @megzehn. Just checking in on this latest page. Thanks!
@DanielleThierryUSDSVA Megan and I both read through this and it's ready for you!
Yay! Thank you both so much!
Status update: http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=48211 is now with SMEs.
Story
As a Veteran who served in the Gulf War or post-9/11 eras, I need to understand the new presumptive conditions added by the PACT Act and how they affect my eligibility for disability benefits.
