My HealtheVet on VA.gov landing page QA approach #54428

Background

As part of the replatforming of My HealtheVet tools from the legacy MHV portal (myhealth.va.gov) to VA.gov, a new My HealtheVet landing page on VA.gov is being developed. Initially, this page will only be available for authenticated users and include deeplinks to specific tools or features in the legacy portal as well as links to tools or features already available on VA.gov.

Success of this new page depends on the ability of an authenticated user to easily navigate from VA.gov to an MHV tool or feature via a deeplink.

QA approach

The new landing page has been tested locally and in staging throughout development. However there have been challenges validating work in staging because of issues replicating production conditions in the My HealtheVet portal lower environment. Thus, the team has decided to move forward with manually testing with known users in production.

Controlled availability

To ensure only selected known users are able to access the new landing page, a feature toggle has been implemented that can be set to only allow whitelisted users. All other users will be directed to the existing MHV portal home page, as is the current behavior.

User selection

We expect to recruit 5 - 10 users that are enrolled in VHA care to serve as our production testers. These testers will be recruited via existing relationships within the VA.gov and My HealtheVet government and contractor teams.

Test process

Each tester will be given a short set of instructions to asynchronously complete and a simple mechanism to provide test results and any additional feedback. We expect to complete testing within a day or two from initiation.
