The current VA.gov decision review hub is benefit-focused and VBA-focused at this time. Our VHA appeals partners have raised the need for more information about health care benefit decision reviews and clinical appeals for medical treatment decisions (which is a separate process). There is a need for near-term work on this to support our VHA appeals partners as well as longer-term work on optimizing the decision reviews hub as a whole.
As an initial "phase 1," we will work together with VA partners to integrate more information about health care benefit and medical treatment decision reviews into the hub in the near-term.
We'll then work with partners to engage in a more holistic review of the decision reviews hub to inform next steps for research and iteration.
Decisions made for Phase 1 (Danielle and Mikki):
Create 2 new pages in the decision reviews hub: Clinical appeals for medical treatment decision reviews and family caregiver claims
Make changes to decision reviews hub landing page to create a more "one VA" approach (i.e. switch "connect with us" section from VBA to VACO and add health benefits hotline as a phone number), bring in new pages, and clarify the difference between benefit and medical treatment decision reviews (label updates, moving "after you submit a benefit decision review" to resources section).
Update "Choosing a decision review option" to include medical treatment decisions.
