About the Employee Experience Team

Background Info.

Toggle to reveal background information > We are working on an intervention to help dissuade Veterans from applying for to increase benefits (A claim for increase, or CFI) for tinnitus when they are already receiving the maximum amount of benefits. We have a few specific requests for the CAIA team: > In our design concept, we have an additional page, outside of the online 526 flow, that provides more information about what it means to submit a CFI when you're already at the maximum. We need help figuring out where this page should live in the information architecture of va.gov, as well as best practices for having people access this information from within the 526 flow). > We would like some review of the content of this more info page for consistency with style guide. It's worth noting that this tested well in our discovery research, so we would want to balance any new changes with what seemed to work for users. > (Potentially) Accessibility assistance on modifications to a checkbox tile to allow us to show the a link to the new information within the tile.

Happy 2024, @amylai-nava ! Just checking in to see if timing for this research will be end of January 2024. I wanted to make sure we have holds on our CAIA a11y calendar, on the dates you may need our assistance with Assistive Tech sessions. Thanks so much! Will look for an update and/or invites to sessions. Take care!

Potential Additional Session

Monday (2/5) or Tuesday (2/6)

Just a head's up to y'alls team that since we have struggled this study with no-shows and cancellations, we are attempting to schedule one more AT sessions either Monday or Tuesday next week. We will let y'all know as soon as possible if that gets scheduled! Thanks for everyone's flexibility as we navigate this. - @ChristineRoseSteiffer

a11y Capacity

I went ahead and put holds on our CAIA A11y Capacity Calendar for those two days. Additionally, I updated the two tables in the body of the ticket.

[!NOTE] We also have two user testing sessions on Monday and one session on Tuesday from another study, as an aside. Check the CAIA A11y Capacity Calendar for more information.

Findings

Strong preference for the Yellow prototype

Purple prototype leads to frustration

Thank you for inviting us to participate in these user research sessions! We look forward to assisting in more sessions in the future - please reach out to myself or Sara if you have any questions about the feedback.

Accordion Information

Adding on: The following is information provided relating to accordions, from a DSVA Slack conversation with Kim in: #benefits-employee-experience-design

Toggle to view the accordion details #### Kim Ladin [@Evan B](https://dsva.slack.com/team/U058A291014) I know we (sadly) had few AT users, but I’m curious if the preference for the accordions over the separate page was consistent with what you all see from other AT users. #### Sara Smith **Ref.: Identity Core Finding re: Accordions** Chunking out sections of the TOU into accordions is beneficial for AT users. The accordion sections in the ToU prototype worked well. Users can choose which sections are read out loud to them, instead of the entire thing being read at once (which can take "30 minutes"). Users can quickly scan sections to see if the contents would interest them. This aligns with experience standard: Content Organization issue 05 “Long or complex sections of content are broken up into content chunks or bulleted lists.” #### Sara Smith >"I'd rather just hear it read to me." - P12, who is partially sighted, speaking about AT and accordions >"I like that. Nice to have the option to look more in depth. Usually don't have the choice." - P19, on TOU items chunked by headings into accordions #### Kim Ladin Thanks [@Sara Smith](https://dsva.slack.com/team/U04NBMUH5C4)! #### Sara Smith No problem! #### Evan Burnett Sara said that perfectly, I really have nothing to add [@Kim Ladin](https://dsva.slack.com/team/U025ZT1TFPH) #### Sara Smith I don't see any other studies mentioning them, at the moment, but ... - The research channel may have some feedback on that too. - And/or the accessibility-help channel, for those who have been here for a while? - [Here is the USWDS information regarding accordions and accessibility](https://designsystem.digital.gov/components/accordion/#accessibility-accordion). - Additionally, [here are accessibility tests](https://designsystem.digital.gov/components/accordion/accessibility-tests/) that can be run on them.
