Open strelichl opened 7 months ago

strelichl commented 7 months ago

For phase 1, we need to create 1 new R&S page about TRICARE (DOD health care program for service members and their families). This page will sit in the health care & disability sub-hub.

### Tasks
- [x] Draft TRICARE R&S page (Laura)
- [x] Copyedit page (Sara)
- [ ] Send to SMEs for approval (Danielle will confirm which SMEs)
- [ ] Prepub and publish on phase 1 launch day
- [ ] Ensure that crosslinks are set up to point to this page

Hi @d-beyer @strelichl , I adjusted the title of this ticket to be specific to the single new R&S page we're creating for phase 1: a page about the TRICARE health care benefits program.

@DanielleThierryUSDSVA let's discuss approach to this page in today's FMB hub sync. Here are some initial notes:

@DanielleThierryUSDSVA here's a draft of the TRICARE R&S page: http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=68618

I pulled language and info from the TRICARE site, VA health care for family members page, and active-duty service members and VA health care page.

I tried to stick as close as possible to existing language from VA and DOD. The only place I went a bit further is in the section about VA health care where I said "After separation, you may qualify for TRICARE benefits, VA health care benefits, or both." I think that's true and wanted to contrast with the CHAMPVA section that says you can only get one or the other.

We can look at this in our afternoon FMB sync and talk about next steps for DOD and VA approval.

I updated this page based on chat in our Monday family member hub sync — champva Q&A is now reusable between champva FAQ page and this page.

@saratorres2 would you have time to copyedit this page draft this week? http://preview-prod.vfs.va.gov/preview?nodeId=68618

Then we'll send to SMEs for review.

Copy edits complete; I added curly apostrophes throughout.

Two quick things to note, @laurwill :

  1. I found myself wondering whether it would be possible to make the TRICARE language across the page more consistent ("active-duty and retired service members" vs. "active-duty, retired, or deceased, service member, National Guard soldier, Reservist, or Medal of Honor recipient" vs. "active duty and retired members of the uniformed services, etc." Would it be helpful to adjust, or is it clear and accurate as is?
  2. Also, the "Learn more about CHAMPVA benefits" link goes to the production page and not the live page. LMK if you'd like me to fix this.

Thanks so much Sara! And thanks for pointing out the variation in the TRICARE descriptions — I changed the third one with "uniformed services" to match the intro. I kept the longer list of eligible groups in the first H2 since that might be helpful to see before going to the site.

And to explain the CHAMPVA link, it's going to the node for an unpublished version of this page that we're moving to a new URL. So no need to adjust, it'll point to a live page when we publish the batch.

@DanielleThierryUSDSVA the TRICARE page is ready to share with SMEs — we're planning to publish this on Monday 6/17 with the phase 1 launch, and I think you said it's more of an FYI since we mostly used existing content.

If we're not able to get SME approval for the new page in time, the backup plan could be to link directly to TRICARE and then replace that link with the new page as soon as its approved. Does that sound right to you?
