High Level User Story/ies
As a Veteran, I need a way to set my preference for email communication sent for new benefit overpayment debts so I can have the choice to opt out if I choose to.
Objective:
Establish email preferences to veteran profile for Benefit Overpayment Email Notification that a Veteran will receive when they have a new benefit overpayment debt.
Problem Statement
Notification preferences do not exist in the VA.gov profile for the debt related notifications (specifically Medical Copay and Benefit Overpayment email notifications). Currently the medical copay email notification has been disabled and given the high volume of these notifications it will not resume until we can communicate to Veterans that they are able to manage their preferences and therefore opt out of receiving these emails if they choose to do so.

CAIA intake ticket has been established to align on terminology related to payments and debts to ensure a consistent approach across modalities and experiences.
Sept 2024
VA Notify has completed work to make preferences available. We have agreed to launch the preferences settings for benefit overpayment notification first; before the notification for medical copays is reestablished.
