Feedback
Practice areas will document their feedback on the VFS-provided artifacts following the Must, Should, and Consider Framework. Platform Governance reviewers may also provide additional notes that don’t comment on the artifacts themselves but are important for implementation (eg. engineering/coding notes).
[ ] Must: clarify entry points and have a plan to update static entry pages Y'all mentioned a couple of entry points for this app (How to file a VA foreign medical program claim and Foreign medical program). Are there any others, including from within MHV? Just want to make sure all entry paths are accounted for. If there is an accompanying change to a primary entry point page in Drupal, that page will also need to come through Staging Review with the product.
[ ] Must: on upload, include supported file types On the file upload page, please specify which file types (and if relevant, sizes) the form will accept. I recommend accepting as many as possible including whichever file types/sizes come from standard mobile phone cameras.
[ ] Should: research the skip-ahead option We don't have an analogous feature like this on VA.gov to my knowledge - so if your team ends up testing this option, I would love for you to present it at a Monday meeting! If you move ahead with the current design, I suggest an action link with strong link text beginning with a verb. I also recommend you follow the Communication information on file pattern for verifying their information.
[ ] Consider: If you have time - display thumbnail images for uploaded files. It occurred to me while y'all were walking us through your designs that people might have a lot of documents to upload, and potentially in different sizes, shapes, colors (i.e. receipts!) - which is different from a lot of our other document upload use cases. What if, once the file is uploaded, a small thumbnail image of the file is displayed in the uploaded file list, near the file name? If I see that I uploaded img_1941204.jpg from my phone I have to trust that I selected the right image. But if I have a thumbnail, I can visually verify. Full disclosure, I'm not sure how the accessibility works here, but it's a pattern I see a lot on image-upload sites. This is something that would (I believe) need to be an update to the file input pattern, and would need to go through our experimental design process. Research might prove me wrong, but I'm curious about whether this would help folks move through the flow more confidently.
