Hi @shannonkford,
I can review this content this week. Can you and/or other members of your team sync with @strelichl @aprocik1 and I tomorrow at 12pm ET to go over the request?
I've briefly looked over the Sharepoint. Am I understanding this correctly?
On the About VA Form-21-0781a page, where will the "online tool" link go? On the About VA Form-21-0781 page, where will the "online tool" link go?
@katherine-fung I can make tomorrow at 12ET work - can you send an invite or shall I?
the new 0781 eliminates the need for the 0781a
- correct
I see the copy that says the 0781a PDF is no longer available, but the online form is still available and VA will review it if someone fills it out and submits it. Is that correct?
- correct - meaning that if you fill out the interview on the 526ez form, it will generate an 0781a PDF and send it in to VBMS with the claim submission.
On the About VA Form-21-0781a page, where will the "online tool" link go? On the About VA Form-21-0781 page, where will the "online tool" link go?
- We are pretty sure that the About 0781a page will go away once VBA deletes it from the form database. On the 0781 page, the link will still go to the 526ez form.
Two additional pages that need to be looked at: Disability compensation for PTSD File additional forms for disability compensation
EDIT: @shannonkford, I've scheduled our sync for 12pm ET tomorrow 6/26. cc @strelichl @aprocik1
Thanks, Shannon! In that case, I think I'm clear on the request, and we don't need to sync.
For the 2 About pages, should I run the draft edits by your team or SMEs before publishing? Are we keeping the link to the online 0781a up because the updated online 0781 isn't live yet?
I'll also review these 2 additional static pages: Disability compensation for PTSD https://www.va.gov/disability/eligibility/ptsd/ and File additional forms for disability compensation https://www.va.gov/disability/how-to-file-claim/additional-forms/

Hi @shannonkford,
A and I have offered our content recommendations for the About VA Form 0781 page in the Sharepoint doc: https://dvagov.sharepoint.com/:w:/s/vaabdvro/EUS2iZylwKVMvQhOURm_1awBAN7YaOV2TmnYbf_3USmFig?e=FVDyLA
It's ready for your review/SMEs' review. You can leave your feedback via comments, and we'll incorporate the feedback. I'll turn to updates for the other static pages in the meantime.
If we could get an answer this question, we can also clarify the copy a little to explain why Veterans should fill out the 0781 PDF instead of using the online tool. But I've written around it for now, so there's no rush.
What happens after a Veteran with a mental health condition that is not PTSD submits their 526 online and doesn't submit a 0781 PDF with it? Will a reviewer follow up with the Veteran to ask them to fill out the 0781 PDF (and therefore their claim decision will take longer)? For now, we've said that if they answer the 0781 questions online instead of filling out the PDF, they won't be able to provide as much information to support their claim.
Hi @shannonkford,
An update on this work. We published this page last Friday: https://www.va.gov/find-forms/about-form-21-0781/
I've made draft changes to these other 3 static pages:
The plan is to copy edit and publish these pages this week.
cc @jilladams @RLHecht @bethpottsVADEPO @saratorres2 @aprocik1
@katherine-fung I published your changes to the 3 static pages:
For the last of these pages, Disability compensation for PTSD, @megzehn and I may follow-up with questions about the alert content and some text under the first H2 later this week.
@katherine-fung When I click these links, I don't see the changes.
@shannonkford do you see the changes when you click on these links?
We removed links to 0781a, added mentions of "mental health conditions" to reflect the new 0781, updated the name of the 0781, and updated VA's definition of "traumatic events" to reflect what's on the 0781.

What's the nature of your initiative and desired outcomes?
A new paper version of VA form 21-0781 is being rolled out on 6/28/2024 that combines the old 0781 and 0781a forms and changes the name of the form. For the rollout, some unauthenticated content needs updating beyond the basic PDF changeout and name change.
Based on initial analysis, we need the following updates:
In addition, we need to implement a redirect on the form detail page for the 21-0781a to send visitors to the 21-0781 form detail page. This is being requested in a separate ticket
86584
.Work to update the online interview version of the form is going through the collab cycle and is being [handled separately] (https://github.com/department-of-veterans-affairs/va.gov-team/issues/80870)
Collaboration timeframe
Note: We work on nearly every OCTO product and manage all unauthenticated content on VA.gov, so we will need to prioritize intake requests based on overall workload and VA and OCTO priorities.
Is this work tied to a Congressional mandate, change in law or policy, or upcoming event with a specific deadline?
Where are you at in your timeline?
The form is currently scheduled to be released on 6/28/2024. This step of updating the form has slipped through the cracks, so to speak. Please check with Shannon Ford if we need to shuffle Benefits Portfolio work to accommodate.

Will you release this new product incrementally (for example, release to 25% of users to start)?
[ ] Yes
[X] No
Note If you checked yes: Incremental launches require dynamic content. You'll need to ask your developer to build a React widget and provide CAIA with the ID code. CAIA will provide widget content and add the widget to your product’s static page. Please refer to this GitHub page for more information.
[ ] I acknowledge that if I change the launch to be incremental, or change it from incremental to 100%, I must notify CAIA of this change as these additional steps will impact deadlines.
