@allison0034 and @GnatalieH - I may have seen an instance of this recently where the question around housing was phrased as "Are you currently experiencing homelessness?" Yes/No. Was it perhaps at the start of Supplemental claim or the 526ez? I've looked at so many forms recently I can't keep them all straight. If you happen to know I'd appreciate a pointer.
This is how we asked about this question for emergency rental assistance:
The two options that mention "human habitation" are more inline with how HUD asks this question. The additional options are meant to help users identify whether they are experiencing, or are at risk of, housing insecurity. I don't know how many of these will be germane to our situation without knowing more about why we ask this in our forms and what we do with that information. But my initial reaction to the form I saw is that asking in this direct way with just a yes/no may not be sufficient.
Veteran-facing Forms team is working on this as a part of form 20-10207 Request for priority processing.
This is slated to ship 4/1/24 and then I can reference examples from this form in the pattern.

This update is for:
Pattern
What is the name?
Ask users for housing situation
What is the nature of this update?
What problem does this solve?
Adding this pattern received 6 votes from DSC and VFS teams. The ask was to cover how to ask Veterans about their housing situation including whether or not they are stably housed. USDS worked on this as part of the Emergency Rental Assistance project which gives me a place to start from. My intent is to add this as a "Use with caution" pattern for a VFS Team to try out.
Shawna had asked for this and now that she is gone I'm not sure which team to work with on this. I'll reach out to Kristen.
