one on one assistance for job seekers

http://veterans.uservoice.com/forums/330333-vets-gov/suggestions/15972037-changes

koconnor719 commented 8 years ago

ric, if there is a phone number for 1:1 assistance can we make it more prominent on the content page for job seekers?

@maryannbrody

rcarthur commented 8 years ago

@maryannbrody @koconnor719 This page could do a better job popping out and prioritizing the path. There are several different organizations (even within VA) that offer one on one assistance - but they each offer slightly different services.

Let me investigate as to whether one of the VA agencies can act as the "quarterback" and then we could use their phone number. @mollyblake

koconnor719 commented 8 years ago

@rcarthur it would be VEC Robert Sanders.

rcarthur commented 8 years ago

@maryannbrody @koconnor719 @mollyblake

Here are our options - couldn't hurt to pop out both of them. @maryannbrody let us know how we should proceed.

(BTW, I checked our VES link...VA recently discontinued this service...so expect to see a PR deleted that link.)

1 - Department of Labor's American Job Center is probably the most robust government service for Vets. http://www.careeronestop.org/LocalHelp/local-help.aspx

1-877-US2-JOBS (1-877-872-5627) TTY: 1-877-889-5627

2 - VESO (VA for Vets) - but they can help with federal or state jobs. When I called to check what they could do, they recommended I call my local American Job Center for local private sector.

As per SME Robert Sanders:

"I would suggest the American Job Center, VESO is being shut down."

Next step is to talk to designers to see if this could be a call out box. Or, should we hold off on any design elements right now because it will be completely overhauled in the future? @maryannbrody @staceylanger - what do you think?

koconnor719 commented 8 years ago

Yep let's hold off on any design stuff on VEC. Til u hear from Stacey or Mary Ann... I thought this might b just a content thing

As per guidance, holding off on adding phone number. For reference when the time comes:

As per VEC SME Robert Sanders, VESO is going away so that the phone number we should add is for the Department of Labor's American Job Center

1-877-US2-JOBS (1-877-872-5627) TTY: 1-877-889-5627

koconnor719 commented 8 years ago

great the only changes we'll be making to VEC for now are content changes.

koconnor719 commented 8 years ago

@rcarthur @maryannbrody sorry i'm confused:) can't we just add those phone numbers (if they are VA numbers?) as content on the job seekers page for now? seems like these numbers would be super helpful to Veterans and they are hard to find. (no design changes per mary ann's comment above--just content)

koconnor719 commented 8 years ago

@rcarthur just confirming from string above--there is NO phone number at VA for employment center that Veterans can call for 1:1 assistance (either in VEC or VR&E)? i thought VR&E had phone number for 1:1 job assistance. just checking.

rcarthur commented 7 years ago

@koconnor719 There is no "central clearing-house" number at VA for finding jobs. When I confirmed this by called the VESO number, they told me to call the American Job Center unless I was wanted to apply for a government job. There is no number for VR&E to help with employment that I've seen (when you're accepted into the program, they assign you a counselor.) There are VECI that could possibly help but there is no central number - it's by regions and I doubt this list of numbers is up to date. http://benefits.va.gov/teei/docs/Roster-for-VECI-01-2016.pdf
