With the AF rollout for first responders, we are instructing users to set up cordons and winds. There are two techniques for cordons and two techniques for winds that we instruct.
Cordon
Cordon 1: Custom MSD/RED
Concerns: This is joint doctrine for strike munitions and it goes into the grey area of repurposing a feature to meet the intent. Meters is the only unit of measure.
Cordon 2: Drawing tool
Concerns: The use of a second tool and the steps to draw and edit the radius
Recommendation
Add a Cordon Tool to the MSD/RED option on the radial menu. This would provide the option to set up a cordon from the radial menu. Please see attached pictures. Distances should include: 500 ft, 1000 ft, 1500 ft, 2000 ft, 2500 ft, 3000 ft, 3500 ft, 4000 ft, 4500 ft, and 5000 ft.
With cordons, it is inherent that first responders will be inside the cordon conducting evacuations and the geofence should not be defaulted on.
Winds
Winds 1: Radial Menu Range and Bearing
Concerns: Displays bearing and does not display speed. Local operating procedure that the blue R/B represents the wind direction with the speed in the remarks.
Winds 2: Range and Bearing Tool
Concerns: Displays bearing and does not display speed. Local operating procedure that the blue R/B represents the wind direction with the speed in the remarks.
Recommendation:
Add a Wind Tool to display wind direction and speed. Defaulted to blue color. The icon should be similar to a large arrow as to not confuse it with R/B or an industry standard wind icon.
The wind tool should be a manual input or have the option to receive data from a weather server.
