Bandwidth Limiting #1297

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Stream Netflix using Chromecast
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
A way to limit bandwidth used using a MAC address. I don't know if it's just me
or not but I've been through everything and can't find anything that'll do
this.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
The latest version on a N56U.

Please describe the problem as detailed as it's possible.
My problem is that despite setting my streaming quality via Netflix, my
Chromecast is ignoring it and doing what it wants. This is an issue somewhere
between Netflix and Chronecast, yes, but until they get their act together I'm
wanting to manually limit the traffic allocated to my Chromecast. Essentially,
QoS like with the default router firmware. Have I just missed it? Or is it not
a feature in this custom firmware? It's kind of a must have.. :/

Have you enabled such options as IGMP/MLD Snooping? Have you tried to change
Multicast Rate?

Thanks for your response. :) No, I haven't. I didn't want to mess around with
anything I didn't understand.. Which goes for a lot of the settings/options
offered. I don't want to limit all network traffic, just the bandwidth
available to my Chromecast to stop it from using so much data. If I could limit
the traffic to something like 1.5mbps just for the Chromecast and leave the
rest of the network as is that would be ideal.

Head over to LAN, then to the IPTV-tab.

Under "Network storm constraint on Ethernet Ports" you can limit certain
bandwidth/configure storm control.

Start by setting a low value on Multicast Storm Control.

Won't that limit the entire network to whatever value I put?

It's the global value for multicast, yes. It should not affect your overall
network performance.
