Transmission and iTunes Home Sharing (Apple TV) Disconnecting #202

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install the latest transmission and set the limit to 4 torrents.
2. Keep transmission working.
3. Streaming to Apple TV from iTunes Home Sharing causes Apple TV to disconnect
after 20-40 minutes.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Apple TV3, iTunes Home Sharing 10 on Macbook Pro 2011 and Transmission 2.50

Please provide any additional information below.

I have tried different multicast settings and other settings and I think that
having transmission running causes Apple TV to disconnect every 20-40 minutes.

Can someone please share what kind of Transmission settings do you have? How
many peers and what are your limits?

I used to experience the same issue on Apple TV iOS v4.4. It is not an R-N56U
issue, but rather an Apple one. Search the Apple TV support site for more
information on it. Updating to the newest Apple TV iOS software and iTunes
solved the issue for me.

I have all the latest software and firmware for all of my Apple devices.

Can you please share the screenshots of your RT-N56U settings:

1. LAN - IPTV screenshots
2. Wireless - Professional screenshots

If you have transmission installed on the router, did you change any special
settings ?

Do you have multicast enabled or disabled? Does Apple TV even need multicast?

I have multicast enabled and set to HTMIX (2S) 26-60 Mbps.
I do not have transmission installed on the router.

Thank you for all the info. I am unable to solve the problem. I am running out
of ideas her. It seems to me that I have tried all the settings and various
firmware versions and nothing works. I can get Apple TV to stream for 40 min
max. Both Apple TV's that I have refuse to maintain connection to iTunes home
sharing no matter what I try.

I am not sure if this si related to the current Apple TV firmware of Asus
RT-n56U. I don't recall having these problems with TP-Link TL-WR1043ND router.

If anyone ever finds a solution, please post back.

It seems to me that this is a firmware/software bug with Apple. I have tested
two movies and I can Airplay them to my Apple TV (3rd) with no disconnects but
if I choose to play a movie from Apple TV using home sharing, I experience
disconnects.

Looking around at different forums, I see that many people are having this
problem with the latest firmware for Apple TV and latest iTunes.

For now, I will Airplay video using Remote app on my iPhone.

Just noticed this in RT-N56U_1.0.1.8d-p3

"Fixed drop mDNS (Bonjour/ZeroConf) and SSDP multicast packets with enabled
IGMP Snooping for both WiFi AP. All applications based on mDNS protocols (e.g.
Apple AirPrint) now work with IGMP Snooping ON."

I now wonder if there is a problem with the firmware or Apple TV. The only way
I can get Apple TV to work is via Airplay but not view iTunes Home Sharing.

Hello,

Ivan, first try to update to the last version of firmware. In previous versions
Apple services wouldn't work properly anyway.
If you get problems, please post them to issue no.2
(http://code.google.com/p/rt-n56u/issues/detail?id=2)

All of my devices are running the latest firmware and software. I guarantee it.
I have no problems with the Internet but Home Sharing on Apple TV does not work
properly. I might be wrong but isn't Bonjour service from Apple designed for
Windows machines?

I am running iTunes Home Sharing on Macbooks

If you look at the screenshots I have posted, you will see that I am using
1.0.1.8e-p2. I have also tried 1.0.1.8d-p3 and 1.0.1.7-p3. All firmwares have
problems with iTunes home sharing. I can only assume that this problem is
multicast related.

Browsing the Apple TV support forums, many have stated altering multicast
settings resolved their issues. It maybe worth for you to try the different
multicast options and see which resolves your dropped Homesharing issue.

I have tried almost all the combination I could come up with and noting worked.
This person on this blog made it work by using official firmware but I am not
sure for which Asus router:

http://overkill.tumblr.com/post/19157123222/homesharingfix

Everything was simple for him but it does not work on RT-N56U

Ivan, maybe try 7.0.1.32beta firmware. It seems to be stable stock firmware. I
used it for a long time. If there is no problem (possibly can be so), then it
will the input point to dig in up-to-date versions...

Cab you please provide me with the direct lin to this firmware? I am confused
about the firmware you are referring to. Do you mean RT-N56U_1.0.1.7f-p11 ?

No, I mean one of the first stock firmware by Asus. Here you go -
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44733876/test/FW_RT_N56U_70132.zip.
It is available in downloads at Asus website.

I have a 2TB drive attached to the router and 7.0.1.32beta firmware does not
seem to support it. My current workaround this problem is to use Airplay
instead of Home sharing.

Sorry, I can't understand your last sentence... Вместо чего? ))
/надоел уже англ в конец/
На самом деле я имел ввиду не пользоваться
этой прошивкой, а просто проверить - будут
ли нужные вам сервисы работать в ней...
чтобы знать откуда ковырять. Неужели нет
флехи поменьше?
