I caution to make sure the GUI is fully functional before merging this pull request.
The edits make intrusive changes in how the control panel is packed.
In my hands on my Mac's X-server, the controls are not currently visible; the leftmost two columns are cut off!
Just be clear; it is not a high priority to merge PR #59, rather it is a critical priority to have a functional GUI so we can create a release candidate at the earliest date.
