Following up to the ASA-CSSA-SSSA symposium discussion, would preparing a PR for building a pkgdown site, be useful? I can give this a shot.

Pull request made. I mentioned in the details that you will need to provide your own PAT (personal access token) to make it work on your repo. It's only running the default version of pkgdown (which serves as a great resource). It's running here if you want to preview it.
