Repositories Installer Add-on or Adult Add-On #10

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Installation of either repository or add-on zip files on to external Hard
Drive that had adult videos (viewable).
2. the zip files are not being recognized by XBMC despite my going to
"Settings", "Add-Ons" Install from Zip File"
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Installation of Zip files in order to have videos scarped.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Apple TV 1st Generation, XBMC 10.1 Dharma

Please provide any additional information below.
I am able to view videos fine on my Apple TV, however I'm hoping to scrape the
internet for the covers to the movies.

Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem, whether using zip add or repository installer

I was actually able to figure out the problem. It seems Mac OS X Lion does not
work well with SMB media streaming which I understand is needed for the
XBMC-Adult scraper to work fully. I subsequently purchased "Player", a UPnP
media server by Yazsoft. With this, I was able to install the repository and
the zip file and have it open within XBMC as directed (locate/decompress the
zip file). Unfortunately, I was still unable to get the XBMC-Adult scraper to
do its thing. So, I disconnected my external HD (where the .avi movie files
were) and connected it to a PC laptop I had running SMB streaming. Sure enough
the scraper worked! All my .avi files (and I have many) were matched with their
appropriate covers, movie info, etc. So, long story short, to have this issue
resolved 1) install the XMBMC-Adult repository/Zip file on your Apple TV using
"Player" or another UPnP media server software (runs around $15-$20) and 2) use
a laptop or PC running SMB media streaming and connect the external HD (or
thumb drive, etc.) to it, having the scraper recognize your files through
there. Of course, this doesn't actually solve the problem of having the Apple
TV/XBMC/Adult Scraper work with a Lion-equipped Mac, but at least until Apple,
XBMC or a developer of the Adult scraper posts an update that's backward
compatible with the current SMB media server configuration? (an older version I
believe), or until someone develops a specific SMB media server software
compatible with Lion, you can rest easy knowing you're not doing anything wrong
and can turn to other more important matters. :)

This does not sound like it is an issue with the repository / scrapers but
rather an issue with your server / file storage machine.

Do any of the default scrapers (e.g. TMDB Scraper) included with XBMC work
against that server?
If no then:-

Is your ATV1 running MacOS or Linux? (i.e. CrystalBuntu)
If its running MacOS you should post on xbmc.orgs forums regarding the issue
If its running CrystalBuntu you should post on the STM Labs forums regarding
the issue

Note: AFAIK you have never been able to install addon.zip files from an SMB /
remote share... you need to download the file onto the machine that is running
XBMC and install it from there.

e.g.
ssh your.apple.tv.ip
Username: root
Password: alpine
cd /root
wget http://xbmc-adult.googlecode.com/files/repository.xbmc-adult.zip

Then in XBMC
System -> Settings -> Addons: Install from Zip File and select
/root/repository.xbmc-adult.zip

I hold on to my assertion -- my problem has been Lion's incompatibility with
SMB file sharing. I learned Apple created it's own proprietary SMB (Window
sharing software) that is not compatible with previously-designed software. I
know this because I have tested my Apple TV/XBMC/XBMC Adult Repository with a
Windows laptop and all works fine. Currently I have no workaround. No software
exists that is easy to implement using the earlier SMB protocol. :(

You did not respond to any of my questions / suggestions.
Your initial complaint and response also state that your issue is with SMB
compatibility of MacOS Lion and not an issue with XBMC or any of its scrapers.
Suggest this issue be closed.
