May I suggest that we call the tag 2017.06? That makes it a little more obvious that the tag is date-based.
In fact, it might be worthwhile to just use the full date as the tag name, because we don't want to exclude the possibility that there could be more than one tag in a month (or even in a day for that matter, hmmm...).
My rationale for short name 17.6 instead of full 2017-06-19: Describing it to someone else in a conversation. "I used desimodules seventeen six" instead of "I used desimodules twenty seventeen oh six nineteen". Easier to remember, easier to say. If we made more than one release in a month, I'd go for 17.6a, 17.6b, ...
2017.06 wouldn't be too bad, and could still be pronounced as "seventeen six", though I'd still prefer simple 17.6.
