I ran the current version of nightwatch on that image and I am not seeing any errors regarding the PSF failing.
I believe I see the dead columns still but in order to make sure I'm visualizing them right in the image can you tell me if they're the ones I circled in blue (lower left) or orange (upper center)? The one in blue stays pretty visible in both "BeforePic" (version you linked) and "AfterPic" (version I just ran) but flip color, while the orange turns from what looks like a bright streak into a mostly black static-y line of pixels.

Add a tool to detect new dead columns. For instance, the following one in Z7 that makes the PSF fit fail. https://data.desi.lbl.gov/desi/spectro/nightwatch/kpno/20200315/00055709/preproc-z7-00055709-4x.html
