It is supposed to comment on old issues and lock them. You're getting a lot of notifications because it was likely installed for a bigger repo that you watch. Try the usual email filters in your client, if the notifications cause issues on your part, or adjust your GitHub settings.

There is not much that can be done on the project's part, the comments must be submitted before locking, and they have a lot of issues to process. Once the issue backlog has been handled, the frequency of bot activity will greatly decrease.

This is still a problem. I should not have to receive spam from your bot whenever it closes an issue.

Contact the project that uses the app, it's up to them to turn comments off. They must have decided to leave comments on to inform users about the reason for locking the issue, and about the actions they can take.

No, I think it's up to you and/or GitHub to identify a way to comment and close issues without spurious notifications. I can't contact every project that uses your app.

@jtheletter, I've deleted your comment because you have asked if I should be blocked.

I'd appreciate if you guys would tone it down a bit, I think your anger is missplaced, and it's not pleasant to be on the receiving end.

GitHub does not offer a way for leaving a comment without notifying subscribers.

The feature exists because maintainers want a way to leave a note at the end of the issue before it is locked, and they have full control over the app's configuration. Commenting can be turned off by setting lockComment to false, but that is not a decision I can make for them.

I've also heard good things about https://octobox.io. There is no fine control over GitHub notifications at the moment, and Octobox helps fill that gap.
