[US - UXD] New design challenge: How can we support people from the UX community like Amelia Harris (secondary persona) who are looking to enter the tech industry or transition to a new position with IdeaSpace?

Considerations:

We are observing there is a big opportunity for IdeaSpace to help people from the UX community like our secondary persona Amelia Harris who are interested in gaining hands-on experience by collaborating on open source projects.

In Dev Launchers people can currently apply to an open source project but what if they would like to help with smaller tasks since their time is shorter? So we would like to explore design solutions for this Scenario.

Initial ideas brainstormed from a meeting with Kris, Dave and Julie (11 Feb, 2023):

• Idea: To add a task list where people could apply to help on Mile’s idea
  • Miles would be able to add a list of activities he needs help on for example: “build an empathy map”, or “create a user journey”, ”run user interviews”, ”build a prototype”, ”run a usability test”, “design sprint”, etc. IdeaSpace should suggest some initial ones for him (similarly to what Linkedin does with adding skills). Ideas for UX tasks could be: https://uxtools.co/challenges
  • Designers and developers from the community would be able to see these activities and “apply” to work on them. These would be helpful for people that want to work on real life challenges but don't have enough time to work on a long term project.
  • If Miles decides they are a good fit he could assign them to those tasks.

Acceptance criteria:

• An initial ideation session was facilitated to generate a broad set of ideas on the design challenge.
• At least one best solution was selected to go forward and test it.
• User flows were designed.
• Design outcomes: a low-fi prototype that we can test to validate the best viable solution.

Hey @JulieMass, sorry for the late response

1. Should we add UXR challenges as well?
2. If applicable, it would be good to have an ideation session to generate better ideas.
3. It depends on the complexity of the challenge and the availability of Amelia, therefore we should tailor down the tasks (from small design updates/fixes to prototypes or hifi mockups).
