When the phone screen is off, gtalksms doesn't respond

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Turn on GTalkSMS
2. Turn off the screen on phone
3. Typing a command
4. Nothing happens until the phone is activated again and the screen comes back 
on

What is the expected output?
The command to be run when entered

What do you see instead?
Nothing when the phone screen is off

Additional informations:
GTalkSMS version = 2.0
Android OS version = 2.3.1 (CyanogenMod 7 Build #8)
Phone model = HTC Hero (GSM)

Does this happen on Wifi or 2G/3G connections?
Is this delay permanent?
If your phone is set to disconnect a Wifi connection on screen lock, there 
could be a short delay.

As I can not reproduce this, logs would be helpful. See:
