Programmer Profiles/Resumes? #202

Curious if it's worth us building some kind of a profile page, where developers can keep up to date with their skill sets and whatnot, maybe job history? Some value in having an "always up to date pre-formatted resume" that we could host.

Not sure how cool it is for anyone else.

I like this idea a lot. It effectively provides our members with a free online resume, and it can be used later to build tools that help members connect with employers or freelance gigs. I think we should pursue this.

We could base it on something like this: https://jsonresume.org/

That way we'd have a standard structure that we could use for styling/search/whatever in the future.

Isn’t this the purpose of LinkedIn?

StrangeWill commented 6 years ago

@ProfessorTom Sort of -- LinkedIn provides a lot more basic resume building tools, not a very helpful guided template, not nearly as fancy design-wise (it helps), and AFAIK: no print support (I am kind of rolling features based off of my resume site I made some time ago/keep up to date).

I'll have to look at jsonresume.org from @brb3 to see if it's on track with the idea of helping build professional resumes or not though.

I think this coming week I'll poke out in the community and see if there is more interest before moving forward of course, you do have a point -- there are others that generally do "well enough".
