Let's talk here about the DN:Fortnightly 1, we should think of a good way to structure this communication as well moving forward.

bibstha commented 9 years ago

I'll try to summarize some events that happened and about to happen.

a. The KTMJS Meetup was on 29th of August, http://www.meetup.com/KathmanduJS/events/224893178/ Slides are here and here.

If only somewrote a summary of the event (number of people, sponsor, the good the bad, questions asked and the discussions, and the general tone of the program). Something like: http://blog.eurucamp.org/2015/08/02/day-three-eurucamp/ (Once can wish )

b. Next up is the RubyMeetup on September 13, Sunday, http://www.meetup.com/Nepal-Ruby-Users-Group/events/224493591/. AFAIK, no speakers confirmed yet.

More to come.

On the news side:

a. I recently launched and open sourced a clean and free job portal, not many users yet but can post about it so people can get interested.

Startups Side

a. I've heard about the site Lishn, and used it as well. Would love to know more about these guys, what they are doing and what they plan to do, new tech stuff if possible. Fortnightly1 can cover them, their tech stack etc.

b. Also something from the naya.com.np. I've known the website for a while but I don't know the actual purpose of the site, besides posting pictures from Nepal.

Other thoughts?

Great starting point. How do you suggest we should go about it @techgaun ? The mailchimp free tier is good enough for us to start with. Lets setup a signup form for people who want to signup for the newsletter. The best place for this would be developers-nepal.github.com. So basically, things that we should sort out very quick

On the parallel, i'd love to see everyone collecting what they'd like to see on the newsletter. Thanks for the initial list of ideas @bibstha and @geshan .

techgaun commented 9 years ago

@hardfire sorry for the delay. Sinusitis making the life difficult.

Yes, the mailchimp free tier is good enough to start with. We can use LaravelWeekly source as a base to start for signup form and setup campaign archive in mailchimp. Likewise, we can grab LaravelWeekly Email Newsletter for the template (Its mailchimp ready, as I know) I also agree that developers-nepal.github.io is a good place to start with to host signup form for newsletter. I am just not sure if we already have an official domain. There can be delivery issues revolving around the free email services and DMARC.

To add to list from @bibstha, we 've PHP developers meet on 5th of September (http://developers-nepal.github.io/php/meetups/05-Sep-2015/). The Nep Security community (http://nepsecurity.org) is working hard to organize an international hacker conference which I believe we as a community should help and support and is worth mentioning.

@bibstha dropping in. I'm now available (after freeing up some time) to volunteer and take the lead if needed. IMHO, for now we can use https://goodbits.io along with mailchimp campaign to share and curate the list in a team just like https://rails-weekly.ongoodbits.com. We can use developers-nepal@gmail.com or likewise if we don't have domain, mail server setup yet.

Cheers for the good work! :beers:

geshan commented 9 years ago

@zoras, that's great, thanks. I give a :+1: to goodbits.io. Seems like it will make life much easier. And developersnepal@gmail.com seems to be taken already. I hope it is one of you guys.

I don't think we need a domain. We can start with name "DeveloperNepal Fortnightly".

Regarding Landing SignUp page, do we have some good color artists here? All I can think of is something plain vanilla like nepalitjobs.com :( Also, goodbits should have some decent templates to start with.

How do you guys suggest we start collaborating with the content?

Just paste all the links we find on Trello / Github and then one person is responsible for collectiong them and organizing them in the actual newsletter?

bibstha commented 9 years ago

@hardfire is it possible to make trello board publicly editable? Instead of adding each people one by one?

hardfire commented 9 years ago

@bibstha unfortunately i cannot find an option to do that. But all members can add other members. I'll have a test drive at goodbits.io and see if it fits our requirement. Regarding collaborating with content : I like the idea of one or a couple (max) would curate the content. Dumping everything would be messy, for sure. If we could use trello to just manage the newsletter, then github could be used for getting content. We'll have to try and test what works best.
