What you will do
Your day-to-day will vary depending on the client, here are some of the highlights of what you
could be working on.
● Ship the next big thing! - Join our work with the world’s top venture funds to help their
portfolio companies design, build, and ship incredible products.
● Provide trusted advice - Use your product and technical experience to advise and
provide directions for our clients. Help them achieve their goals by putting on your
product manager or CTO hat.
● Build relationships - Represent Lazer by keeping clients up-to-date, managing their
expectations, getting them excited about your work, and collaborating to build a great
product with a great relationship.
● Be a part of the team - Even when you’re not working with other great Lazerites on your
project, you can still be a part of the community by answering technical questions to help
others, offering your opinions on debates, and teaching us your areas of expertise in
lunch-and-learns.
Your greatest strengths:
● Experience in your belt - You have extensive experience as a senior full-stack web or
mobile engineer, you have known the highs and lows of taking products to production
and you know how to work in teams of engineers and designers.
● Sense of ownership - You love being scrappy and taking pride in building products or
features from a blank slate all the way out to release.
● Product-minded - You want to be a founder or CTO in the future and you have an
interest in areas of a product beyond the code. You might even do side projects in your
free time with hopes of taking off one day.● Project-minded - You can set standards for timelines, and milestones and keep your
clients expectations realistic.
● Talk the talk - You are able to articulate your thoughts clearly and concisely, even to
non-technical audiences to keep clients in the loop on what you are building or running
into.
● Thirst for knowledge - You love continually learning something new. You’re excited
when a new technology appears and are hungry to expand your toolkit.
Cu
lture:
● We’re all about startups - Our founders are Y Combinator alumni and exited through
an acquisition before starting Lazer. So startups are part of our DNA when we work with
ventures as clients or when we actively support the startup dreams of Lazerites.
● Be your own boss - Need to run for an appointment? Take your kids to school? Walk
your pet? You are your own manager. As long as your client is aware, feel free to work
on your own schedule.
● We support your side projects - The best engineers usually have side projects or
ideas in incubation so we are completely supportive of whatever you’re working on. We
can help you prepare for pitches, offer advice and even introduce you to investors when
you are ready. We would be ecstatic if Lazer could be your stepping stone to launching
your own venture.
● Flat organization - Everyone is accessible for a quick message on Slack or a virtual
coffee - even our founders. You will always have a voice to be heard and influence the
direction of the company.● A professional community - You will be working alongside past CTOs, 1st hires for
successful startups, and masters of niche technologies. The Lazer community is made
up of people just as friendly and kind-hearted as they are skilled. Everyone is
easy-to-talk-to and eager to help whenever you need it.
Benefits
● Remote work first - Lazerites have worked from beaches in South America, or while
backpacking through Europe or simply lounging in the comfort of their own home. While
we have coworking spaces available for you in some cities, we are and will always be a
remote-first company.
● Healthcare spending account - Stay healthy with a spending account that you can
allocate however you want.
● Education reimbursement - We will always support your efforts to learn new skills or
explore new areas through an education reimbursement plan.
● Annual company trip - As a global company with employees everywhere, we still place
value on building relationships and culture with all our employees. Every year, we have
annual company retreats where the only goal is to relax and have fun as a group. In the
past, we have gone to Hawaii and Cancun and we are currently taking suggestions for
the next destination!
● Holiday shutdown - Holidays and time with family are important. To make sure even the
workaholics can’t get around that, our entire company shuts down for two weeks in the
December holiday season.
● Unlimited vacation and sick days - We value the importance of having time to
recharge so there are no limits on how often or how long your breaks are (within reason).
As long as your client is aware, all you need to do to take some time off is give us a
heads-up before enjoying your leave.
