UC Davis has received funding from Welcome Trust to further research in risk modeling Arena virus disease epidemiology and ecology. The models will predict disease spread and spillover patterns affected by climate change.
Goals
UC Davis and Development Seed will collaborate to build an online platform that showcases the work, user-friendly interactive tools and the data library. The web platform will primarily showcase 3 main things:
Model based tools (which can be semi-/fully interactive)
Information and news in the form of current research
Data bank that collects and curates all open-source data needed for projects that are related
The target user is people who are scientifically trained but not necessarily experts on the topic. Examples are public health officials, veterinarians, local government body officials, local policy makers, and other scientists who are interested in this discipline. With this in mind, the design will feature UI-based interactive features such as toggle bars, buttons, drop down menus, etc. The development of the models in the backend will be in python and R.
Frontend - static site to share data, visualizations, models and updates on arenaviruses
Backend - update static site via code (github, yaml, etc)
