libra live next steps

Some ideas for changes to libra live that could happen over the next few months.

short term

• we used mapzen search to query place names and get lat/lon. obviously this has to change.
• add some help text in the ui so people have some idea what they're able to do the first time they use it
• rename repos. the naming scheme is a little confusing. we often talk about libra live as the end project, but the user-facing app is in a repo named libra-alexa and the libra-live repo is the tiler. proposed change:
  • libra-live -> libra-live-tiler
  • libra-alexa -> libra-live
• publish the alexa skill so anyone can use it
• ? suggestions welcome!

long term

• design + branding improvements
• put tiles on a map, not just show an image
• see what we can glean from landsat-tiler and rio-tiler
• use the lex api
• try to make the alexa app more conversational to allow follow up questions, for example:
  • "libra, show seattle"
  • "now show land/water analysis"
  • this may or may not be possible
• ideas for tying in other projects:
  • include command for extracting roads from the image with on-the-fly prediction?
  • include command for comparing predicted roads vs mapped roads from OSM?
  • include command for showing osm edits for a tile within a date range?
• ? suggestions welcome!

@sethvincent, a question for include command for extracting roads from the image?: do you refer road extraction here that it's extracted from existed OSM directly or have an actual trained machine learning model does the prediction backend?

I am gonna go a bit off chain here. It will super cool to have some machine learning prediction actually run backend on the fly and visualized it when a user calls it if we can make the prediction accurate enough and worth to show. Or have a total predicted road length and mapped road comparison would be a good feature too.

@ascalamogna totally agree.

@Geoyi definitely had on-the-fly prediction in mind. I have no idea how to achieve that but it would make for a super fun demo 😅.
