Elections To Do (Week of 1/6/2013) #3

Open emilme opened 10 years ago

emilme commented 10 years ago

As a follow up to conversation about Open Elections project (Development Seed looking to champion an effort to create a central online repository for global elections data). Next few weeks we will have to figure out the strategy and messaging of the Open Elections project. Pipeline includes data from Afghanistan, Egypt, Lebanon, and Tunisia.

Possible Strategies

  1. Deliver data and do it quickly - hope the right groups come and find us (if you build it, they will come)
    • Pros: easiest
    • Cons: may not find the right groups
    • ID local partner
    • Pros: Legitimacy of having in-country partners
    • Cons: May not be a suitable partner; NGOs can be sketchy, and hard to find the partner when we are not there (leads are Elieen, Andy, Wazhma)
    • Local & international users help crowd source/assist the development of their stuff
    • Pros: Big impact
    • Cons: Time

Just wanted to be the first "if you build it they will come" sample :) https://www.opendataphilly.org/dataset/prior-year-election-results Also FYI there's a democracy hackathon in Philly in a couple weeks. Happy to connect you to the organizers if you think it would be helpful.

Thanks @timwis, this is a really cool data set. I'm seeing an error when trying to view the metadata, any advice?
