Please edit/comment if interested. I tried to keep the technical discussion to a minimum, but it is a fairly technical post nonetheless. Any ideas to reduce technical language are welcome. It is also perhaps a bit long, so happy to prune where appropriate.

@JmeCS looks good overall - I left some minor comments. A more general comment is I think we could abbreviate the recap of the first post even more - perhaps set a limit it of 2 sentences each to describe the problem and our approach to solving it.
