What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. load bitcoinspinner, select 'Send Bitcoins'
2. paste address, input amount
it calculates the network fee then says "an unexpected error occurred. please
try again"

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
v 0.7.3b on Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 (sholes) Android 2.3.7

My hunch is that your wallet cannot afford the fees of the transaction. If you
have many small inputs to your transaction then the miner fee will be larger
than 0.0005. The formula is basically 0.0005 for every 1000 bytes of
transaction size. If you tell me your bitcoin address and the amount you try to
send I can investigate.

I believe I was taking the fee into account. I have since reset my phone and
reloaded the app and everything has been hunky-dory. Consider this issue
closed. Thank you for your prompt response and kindly excuse my delay in
responding.

I want to use bitcoinspinner to send to a specific bitcoin amount to a
domain/url or company name.

e.g. 'Send Bitcoins' Name: (Cheap Bitcoins) /OR/ address:

Is that possible with bitcoinspinner or must I use only the bitcoin address?

If you add the address to your address book and give it a name, then you can
send bitcoins to the name. Otherwise no.
