argument --fan influence MH #212

Open impy-bb opened 3 years ago

impy-bb commented 3 years ago

Every time i set up --fan below 100 my MH/s is reduced.

For example at 100 I have between 90-100MH

But if i set up --fan 60 I have between 70-80MH

and if i set up --fan 50 I gave betwwen 55-60MH

Fan speed shouldn't influence my MH/s.

Regards

Hotter core runs slower; you want to break the laws of thermodynamics?

Blame garbage cooling solutions from most GPU brands.

Set your fans to 50 but set an unrelated window fan blowing at it, you'll see 90-100MH because -- airflow means colder!

Actually even at 50% fan on my 3080, my graphic card doesn't go above 56 degree.

So if i understand what you saying, with 56 degree on my CG I shouldn't get slower because of my cg temperature, right?

3080's can have cold cores but very hot ram, have you checked your other component temperatures?

In both situation my internal gpu ram is at 110 degree

And as you can see when my fan are at 60% the memory load is only 80%. when fan are at 100, memory load at 100%. And it's constant.

As if Gminer lower the load in function of the fan speed. Very weird.

For future reference: The only reason you're seeing a difference in load is that junction memory is capped at 110C (and even there, it's probably not a good idea to stay at this temp for too long).

Load varies because despite being at 110C memory junction temp with fans at 100% speed, it doesn't seem to hit the throttle threshold (which might be 111C). With your fans at 60% speed, the card basically hit the temp threshold in a small amount of time and in order to reduce the junction temp, the card has to lower the load.

These things only happens on GDDR6x cards like the 3080 and 3090 that have basically have subpar thermals for mining unless you change the thermal pads.
