@AlexandroPerez I can't add the design label to this issue, and I'm not sure why... Could you add it please 😄
@zenware I just added you to Admin team and made you the maintener. You should have admin privileges for this repository
Hi, I put this together this morning, let me know what you think.
This looks cool! I like it a lot :+1:
This is nice. 👍 But better to have few more samples. So that we have options to choose from !
@jrl80 it looks great! How about having more octocats, since this is a community, would that be possible?
Octocat found some friends!
Not a bad concept. I applaud you, and I am very critical of design! Would you be offended if I took the concept and gave it a spin?
Also, I love how we want a 'cooler' logo, and we get a submission of Octocat roasting marshmallows on the Free Code Camp fire!
I like the design's idea. Design says everything about what this project is about: FCC, Github Collaboration and a community of devs!
One issue I'm concerned right now that I thought about it a bit, is can we use the octocat? I mean with Copyrights and all that.
The octocats used were taken from Font-Awesome. Here's the license (http://fontawesome.io/license/).
Brand Icons
All brand icons are trademarks of their respective owners. The use of these trademarks does not indicate endorsement of the trademark holder by Font Awesome, nor vice versa. Brand icons should only be used to represent the company or product to which they refer.
@colshacol feel to take the idea and run.
This is from Github:
So it seems we can't use the octocat in the logo. We can use it in icons because they are supposed to redirect the user to a github's website, to a user account or to a project repository, but not as part of a custom design. So unless we can get permission to use it, we should avoid the octocat.
I still like the design though, so if you still feel motivated and inspired to help us with this @colshacol, please let me know so I can set you set you as the first assignee. You can spend as much time as needed if you decide to take on the task.
Others are still welcome to help anytime as well. Please just try to communicate with others working on the logo to let them know of your ideas, progress and maybe help one another.
I'd like to take a shot at this.
@4trio19 So.. they also have a community project where everyone (who works for GitHub) is allowed to design their own Octocat and they are all over the place and very fun, and the faq says that you are allowed to use it as a profile image, but not as an organization/company image or for any kind of product...
Still anyone who needs some artistic inspiration should definitely check that out.
Also, I am not an artist so I can't make this happen but I think it would be cool if some element of the artwork were a typographical illustration of some binary, hex, or even just code.
ascii:
fcc-community
binary:
01100110 01100011 01100011 00101101 01100011 01101111 01101101 01101101 01110101 01101110 01101001 01110100 01111001
hexadecimal:
66 63 63 2d 63 6f 6d 6d 75 6e 69 74 79
The above are all the same data represented in different ways. I have always thought artwork which uses text to define its boundaries is super cool. Especially when it can make use of both positive and negative space in interesting ways, but that's a different story.
Anyways, nobody has to appease me I just think it would be cool and I don't have the skills to make it happen.
@zenware Those octocats are awesome! Too bad we can't use them, but that's to be expected. We should strive for an original logo for this specific project.
@iBrunch Go ahead and take a shot!
This is pretty self-explanatory, but 'cooler' is subjective, so maybe just 'not-autogenerated' logo.
