Hi, it's a website not a tool, I don't think this service/website has its place on the project, check what kind of icon are accepted on Devicon here. @Snailedlt if you agree you can close this requested as not planned 🙂

Took a short look at their website This looks like a company, not a technology. Company logos are out of scopefor the Devicon project.

@Spince Can you confirm/deny, and perhaps explain why you think this icon should be added?

Just to make the case for @Spince, if other SQL-based technology companies are included Snowflake may fall within scope as well. With Snowflake you can write code with it, handle code with it, transform code with it, add your code to it, and test your code with it. It does have web-based hosting similar to DataBricks but has a downloadable app IDE as well. It's a database tool that mostly serves SQL code and given that technologies like RStudio and VSCode are included (which both run other languages like SQL, R, and Python) this may fall in the same scope as RStudio, VSCode, and Anaconda.

Hope this helps! :) @Snailedlt @BenSouchet thanks for linking that! Hope I didn't miss anything.

@KayleeDavisGitHub Interesting. Sounds like snowflake is also a platform. Do you know if any of the tools you mention have their own names, or if they just go under the umbrella term snowflake?

Some links to the individual tools would also be useful, as I couldn't find them from quickly browsing their website.

Like I said, I'm not familiar with snowflake, so I need more info before making a definitive decision

@Snailedlt I do not know what underlying stuff goes into Snowflake, a lot of the individual "tools" that go into Snowflake is just SQL coding and other data engineering tools like I mentioned above.

Sorry I can't be of more help here!

Snowflake is a platform that is a hosted data warehouse. You can interact with it through an api, sql client, jypiter notebook, etc. Snowsight is their visualization UI. Snowpark is their Python/Java tool.

Closest equivalents to Snowflake are BigQuery from Google and Redshift from Amazon. Databricks is another similar tool.

@Spince I see, so Snowflake is more comparable to tools inside of Azure/AWS/GCP than Azure/AWS/GCP themselves. Does that sound about right?

I guess if that's the case, then I would consider it a tool.

Spince commented 1 year ago

That is correct. Snowflake can be run on any of the cloud providers but is a third party tool.

Well, I'm convinced that this fits the requirements then.

@BenSouchet take a look at the last few messages and see if it changed your mind or not :)
