Support for stream=xbstream in xtrabackup 2 #63

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

Xtrabackup 2 is unable to take backups of large databases using stream=tar (the
tar format used doesn't support large files).

If would be great if xtrabackup-manager allowed to use stream=xbstream instead.

Xtrabackup 2 is now the default Xtrabackup versions when using percona's
package repository.

More infos :

Xtrabackup 1 is shipped with a special "tar" tool supporting large files.

Xtrabackup 2 doesn't ship with a special "tar" tool anymore; as a result
--stream=tar doesn't work when backuping large files.

Solution is to use --stream=xbstream in XBM, or to use Xtrabackup 1.

Hello Arnaud,

I know this is an old issue, but I currently try to use xbm for creating
backups with a current xbm and current xtradb single host and run into these
issues as I don't know how to change the method from tar to xbstream. I just
can't find any option to do that via xbm backup edit ...
Should I change any default innobackupex or xtrabackup config file to do that?

Greetings
Benjamin

Hi Benjamin,

The following change worked for me:
https://github.com/arnaud-lb/xtrabackup-manager/commit/77ced620b6cf31e864e5d14eb
580698e13c90489

Note that this removes support for xtrabackup 1.x.

Thanks for your help, my problem was still a permissions problem. :)
