[Request] Default Path #66

I was told to potentally bring this up as a potental implementation in a future update from a forum I frequent, so that is what I'm doing.

I would like to request being able to set your own default path for hbmenu, either externally in a .cfg (or .bin or whatever) or within the application itself. It would be really useful if you hold .3dsx files somewhere not within the root/3ds section.

Thank you, sorry if I screwed anything up, I made my account less than 15 minutes ago.

  1. Please don't edit your issue and name the piracy site that was removed. We don't support piracy and we don't link to sites that promote piracy.
  2. What's the purpose of having .3dsx files elsewhere?
terrran0va commented 4 years ago

1 it's... not though, it's just a forum, but ok ._ .

  1. It'd be useful for people like me who move their 3dsxes elsewhere (like at the root of the sd, like I wanted to do, as an example.

  1. It's a forum that promotes piracy.

  2. The root of the sd card has a limited number of entries. Many people use their SD cards on multiple systems - for them it makes sense to keep everything organised per console.

  3. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, some homebrewers continue to insist on using absolute paths in their homebrew so moving your .3dsx files around may cause issues.

Back on topic, I'd also like to able to change the start folder for Homebrew Launcher: It always opens in the sdmc:/3ds directory, whereas I've been keeping my most-used apps in the sdmc:/3dsx folder.

Popping up and down the directory tree every time is a little annoying, and I shouldn't have to dump all the files into the 3ds folder to remedy this.

Perhaps blacklist the root so it can't be sset as default?

Why do you have your homebrew apps in a non-standard folder, may I ask? We're considering removing the ability to back out into the root of the SD card (therefore locking all browsing within sdmc:/3ds) in order to avoid counter-intuitive behaviour fwiw.

If the reason is because of most used and not most used, you should consider staring your 3dsx instead. That way, you can still differentiate and at the same time, not have to use a non-standard folder
