devo.ps hack sprint

We've discussed being able to take the core devo.ps team (@hunvreus, @zbal and @JuhaS) to live together for 2 to 3 weeks in a hacking session (YC style). A couple things to keep in mind:

• All services projects need to be pushed out the door by the time we start our sprint. That means WRI, World Bank, Knight Foundation et al need to have anything relying on one of us take care of and planned. We need to sync with @quentinberder to make sure this is taken care of.
• The Wiredcraft retreat is from Sept 9 to Sept 12. We can most likely keep on hacking through (though in Moganshan) and demo to the rest of our team our progress. It is possible that the Wiredcraft team will be presented with a hackathon for an afternoon as well (not sure of the program).
• I am landing on the 15 and would likely want a couple days in the office to wrap things up with the Wiredcraft team and catch up with everybody.

I need you guys to tell me what's possible in terms of dates. I would like to do something like 20th of August onward with you guys, in a room, in Shanghai, with two days at Wiredcraft (Tuesday for demos and chats with the rest of the team and maybe Thursday or Friday to relax and catch up for a few hours). We could have 1 day/evening a week with the family/SO/girlfriend. So:

• What are your availabilities and what can you get away with regards to your wife/friends?
• What do you think should be our schedule?
• Where should we do this? I'm keen on being in Shanghai (maybe Pudong or something) so that we can easily come down the office if needed.
• What do you see left on your plate on the Wiredcraft side of things (mostly you @JuhaS)?

Let's nail down a schedule and I'll make reservations.

• Budget-wise, we'll be simply use the place at which I stay (I'm still looking at Airbnb places where I can fit everybody). The goal is to not be comfortable.
• Targeted schedule for now is 21st to September 9 (roughly).Waiting on @JuhaS and @zbal to let me know what's possible.
• We have another 10 days before this would potentially start.

From I understand, the main ties at the moment are:

1. The subnational still needs some front end hacking.
2. The WRI stuff still needs to be fleshed out.
3. Some strategy?

Between us and the Octokan team (aka everybody else), I think that can be dealt with. The main challenge here are that subnational needs to be taken care of by @JuhaS and @bbss needs to be properly directed, the rest should be manageable.

What kind of budget beyond booking the Airbnb place would I need to prepare?

• Schedule-wise, I'm open to whatever dates, to extend of the concerns raised in former emails about my mondays.
• Location, wherever is fine, Shanghai vs. other location makes no difference. Shanghai and Airbnb is by far the most convenient - all that is required is reasonable budget + 3 beds + proper internet connection. Another option is Youth Hostel that usually have cheap sleeps and yet wide open space where we can focus our attention. It may not be as "private" as airbnb though.

• We'll talk about your Monday schedule for the middle to long term when I'm back, but I guess it would be fine if you still went to CNC through these 3 weeks. What we're looking at is full on from the Airbnb with Sunday off from noon onwards to spend time with your wife/gf. Back there on Monday w/ Juha, you can join us in the evening.
• For now, we're looking at a place in Pudong: cheap, dead on the distraction side of things, usually good connection and ability to hop on the subway and come down the office in 30 minutes if @quentinberder needs us.

Small change on my side. I would like to shorten it to finish it 5th Friday instead, since Sat-Mon are national holidays. Probably good idea to get a few off days before going again to the retreat anyway.

$902 for the rental. No idea of price for everything else; I usually live on < 10 USD per day, I would assume 100 RMB per day should be enough since we'll cook at home.
