Clips pointers and printer setting tips #9

This may just be me documenting my trial and error, as I am not sure the best place to do this. Perhaps in a Thingiverse discussion board, though I don't love the interface there.

Lesson 1: Brim, Raft or any plate adhesion method is bad: img_20180622_214251 Light blue, all the way to the right. These are terrible. The little bits of plastic on the edges seem to make it really difficult to use them. That was my first set of clips. For a moment I assumed OpenLock was just too tight of a fit, then realized its probably because my clips were not clean. However, this is a smaller of two issues.

Second, clip thickness. I use a semi-public 3d printer at work, I do not have one at home. Many people use these, swapping fillament & printer settings, etc. In the above pic, the left most 2 blue clips are about 20% slimmer than the rest. The pic below illustrates this: img_20180622_214404

The left most are even a bit warped due to a cool room causing them to peel from the plate a bit during printing. Even so, they clip very nicely.

Lesson 1: No plate adhesion, bad.

Lesson 2: I am investigating what changed the thickness, but I am guessing it had something to do with a first layer thickness setting on the printer. This is probably great for some things, terrible for these clips, which need to be snug but loose enough to use.

Aside, this pushed me over the edge to order my first set of magnets tonight! Looking forward to testing the new method.

Now, I seem to have the opposite issue with these bases. The underside of the magnet tube seems to be too thin. I believe I posted a pic of this on a Thingiverse Forum board as well. The rest of the print is great, but I am guessing once I put magnets in these, it prob will not take much force to punch them out through the bottom. I am guessing proper print settings would make these sturdy enough that this would not be an issue.

I believe my layer height is 0.25mm. Perhaps a smaller layer height would correct this issue? On the flip side, I thought about increasing the base layer, but I magine that would create compatibility issues with any other set I might happen to purchase or anyone else who also prints these.
