nice post! some very useful info here.. I was a little surprised to see how little exposure this post has actually had, considering it's already a few months' old now. that said, with the deadline for this drawing closer, I think that's about to change.

BTW: I'm going to share your post on this Dev.to post as a "simpler alternative to hacking together a non-"Docker Desktop" setup on Windows.

also, as an aside: utterances is downright awesome! only discovered it today from reading this post. GitHub powered comments out in the wild, gotta love it.. :vulcan_salute:

Many existing tools and libraries depend on either the Docker CLI or being able to talk directly to a Docker daemon using the Docker REST API. So if you want a drop-in replacement not all of the solutions listed on this page may fit the bill.
