Stock WiFi Manager can't create new WiFi profiles #98

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Do a complete (system+data) reinstall of UrukDroid 1.6 with Easy Installer
on Internal Storage with resize option.
2. Open the Stock WiFi Manager in the Configuration App
3. Try to add a new, secured Network, enter the Password and it does ...
nothing.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I would expect my Archos to connect to the configured network, but it does not
even have a new profile of this network in the 'Saved Networks' section.

Did previous version of UrukDroid did it right? Does it work on Archos
default OS correctly?

Nope, did first happen to me after the reinstall of v1.6. Of course, it works
on stock Archos...

What version of UrukDroid are you using? What version of Archos device?

UrukDroid 1.6 Easy Install Package on Archos 10.1, on Internal Storage with
Resize.

Please provide any additional information below.

It does not matter, if you try to configure your WLAN in the initial
configuration assistant or skip it there. It does not work either way. Luckily,
I found a workaround: using the WiFi Manager App included in Uruk 1.6 works.
You can create the profile and then use it normally.

http://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/UrukService_wpa

It appears that using the patched wpa_suplificant that allow a user to connect
to a ad-hoc network prevent the user to use the stock manager. This is
documented in the wpa service help page.
On UrukDroid 1.6, this wpa service is activated by default and this cause this
problem.

Quote from the link above :
If you would like to use Ad-Hoc WiFi networks please enable "wpa" service (this
will exchange wpa_supplicants) and from now on you should use "WiFi Manager"
instead of Android/Archos default WiFi configuration wizard

I am not the developper but I think this will be a won't fix issue.

If you want to use the stock wifi manager and don't need ad-hoc network
support, I suggest you to go to UrukConfig app and disable "wpa".

This way, you can also set the property "disable the network share" or
something (my user interface is not in english). Because when the wpa service
is activated you can't check this and of cource this will slow down your device
on a big network.

UrukDroid 1.6.1 (13.01.2012) (this is just fix release)
[CHANGE] Restored default settings for mediascanner (on) and wpa (off)

This issue can therefore be closed.
