difference between - and -- and --- #2

Correct usages include:

non-trivial process

Metropolis--Hastings step

The code---which is slow---is located at...

The - symbol is used to hyphenate words, ie, two words that combine to make an adjective. The -- symbol is used to connect words that represent a relationship (like "push--pull"). The --- symbol is used to separate parenthetical phrases.

I knew the difference between - and --- but I didn't realize that -- meant something besides subtraction! Cool.
