Determine how the Pacific Salmon Grants & Contributions app can be leveraged for salmon data

• [ ] Determine if information from the SEP-CIP PSSI Infrastructure survey was used, e.g., water license number, verified hatchery locations
• [ ] Ask how River/CU info is pulled in
• [ ] App demo with Amelia

We need to determine how the Pacific Region Salmon G&C Metadata Database folds into our data inventory and data life cycle governance model.

This is somewhat related to project inventories in #58

Here's my notes from my meeting with Amelia:

Amelia Mahony:

• G & C App: Grants and Contributions: Inventory Information
• Dealing with agreement type data, DFO and Nations. Activities
• GCats: Good at capturing finance info, but didn't have info regarding project activities.
  • Amelia interested in improving reporting outcomes. Answer questions like: how many projects are out there related to species x or y. Where are the data.
• Activities: a project on a river about a species
• Categorizes activities based on Coarse to fine levels 1-3 for both Human Activities & Biology.
• Users: Decision Makers, to report out better where money is going.
• Room for keeping track of data, and sampling type.
  • Not required for people
• EDH Keywords are non-sensical. So are Open Data's. I should follow up with this.

GC App for Salmon Projects:

• Search doesn't work great.
• Filters work good. can filter by
• Has to manually download information from GCATs to update
• Up to date for PST and AFS (Aboriginal Fishery Strategy)
• Can download everything to excel
• Can link to data and reports

Used to improve reporting for Wild Salmon Policy to fulfill PST requirements. Not mandated outside of that (or inside of that really). Also an enterprise level grants and contributions database coming as well

• Has ability to bin by Outcomes. Most outcomes come in the form of pdf reports, time consuming to pull out structured information from reports.
• PDF reports of Outcomes are uploaded to GCATs (which is just finance info really)
  • • Amelia doesn't update Outcomes in GC App from GCATS DB because it's too much. Just used PDFs to create initial outcomes structure

Questions:

• Data Management Plans?
• How good is compliance? For GCATs...
• How much work is it to maintain this?
• Can this be scaled out beyond?

Wants to round out the process of tracking outcomes and comparing to plan. Wants to get groups together to get the metadata pieces agreed upon.

Usually Areas or Resource Managers that facilitate the agreements.

Also working on a Power BI Dashboard, but pretty basic so far.

Field Notes: Collaborative

GCATs is an oracle database. Hard for Amelia to pluck out just salmon species. No one in G & C adds salmon tags.

Power BI Report Amelia has started developing an accompanying Power BI report, not connected to Fabric. Ask how DSU can support this. Would be interesting to visualise the # of salmon-related projects that have data mgmt plans, are eligible for Open Data, etc.
