Reverse engineer Fraser Pink FSARs to document the raw data used to produce indicators #81

To help us better understand the Fraser Pink Salmon and the data in the FSAR pilot project, I have drafted a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the report.(FR-PK-ResDoc/analysis/data at main · Pacific-salmon-assess/FR-PK-ResDoc (github.com))

I have made the Fraser Pink Salmon Stock Assessment Data diagram with Visio. It's more complicated than I thought.

Next steps:

  1. Add a legend to the indicator tree diagram.
  2. Create a more generalized diagram to represent other species and areas at a higher level.
  3. Schedule a meeting with Erika to understand the data requirements for integration into the Salmon Population Summary Repository.

Erika mentioned to me that not all FSARs will have a projection model. So that might not be needed in the broader diagram that is applicable to all FSARs.

Before the meeting with Erika, let's get an excel table list of the data variables we know we need to get into the Salmon Pop'n Summary Repo. Those will be derived from the pink data, Sue Grant's rapid assessment data. Can you work on creating that table @ShaorongDFO ?

To test Elise's system, I believe we actually have all the data from here (FR-PK-ResDoc/analysis/data at main · Pacific-salmon-assess/FR-PK-ResDoc (github.com), @alburycatalina Could you please download all the data, and try them out with the system? I have put brief description for each data set in this table . Please feel free to reach out for any questions.

Thanks @ShaorongDFO. After a look at Elise's data, I think I need column definitions from her to move forward with adding this data to the database. Does that meeting time on Monday at 1PM work for you?

With my limited knowledge of Stock Assessment and its process, I create a new data flow diagram. -page 1 and page 5. These sub-process icons are clickable, bring you to the other pages. These other pages are from one of Diana Dobson's documents, for generating composite data and indices. It surely shows the complexity of salmon data, and the importance of improving and coordinating reporting of assessments resulting from salmon monitoring programs and ensuring those data are open accessible.
