Pitbull QSO keeps stuck on one station #4

Open darkworon opened 1 month ago

darkworon commented 1 month ago

In Pitbull QSO mode, FT8 Helper is trying to made QSO 5 times and this count cannot be changed. But if the station does not answer you and continues to call CQ or someone else, the counter of made attempts is reset. So it's being stuck calling same station.

dg5lp commented 1 month ago

Maybe the “DX-Chasing” (pitbull) function was misunderstood. Honestly the description was not very good. The main idea was to call rare DX stations as long the station can be received. The Helper stops calling the station only if the station is not received in five consecutively RX-cycles. With other words, the counter is reset each time the station is received in QSO with other stations. This is endless as long the station was received. If the station is not received any more, it can call other stations from the “Wanted-Calls”or “Prompt-Call” lists.

There are three possible scenarios how a Pitbull QSO starts. Of course the prerequisite is to having selected the “DX-Chasing” mode.

Pressing the “Clear-PP” button stops calling the station. The Helper then can call other stations (but also the previously stopped station) if one of the stations on the lists sends CQ, 73 or RR73. To avoid calling the previously stopped station, the call-sign should be removed from the “Prompt Calls” or “Wanted Calls” list.

I hope that the pitbull function is now more clear.

Thanks for the reply. This isn’t the case though as I haven’t selected any of those. I have actually tried to enter things like ignore calls and I’ve never got that to affect anything. It still calls the call I don’t want. I’ve never enabled any of the other options. It will start a Pitbull qso whenever in mix mode someone calls cq and it tries to answer. It also does not stop calling a station if they never respond to the cq. It did not do this in the older versionSent from my iPhoneOn Aug 12, 2024, at 4:12 PM, dg5lp @.***> wrote: Maybe the “DX-Chasing” (pitbull) function was misunderstood. The station is a new DXCC station (or higher priority if selected in WSJT-X).

The station is full matching to one of the entries “Wanted Calls” list in the Helper`s configuration.

The station is matching to one of the entries in the “Prompt Calls” list. If the call-sign was entered before starting the DX-chasing mode, it starts calling the first entry whether the station was received or not.

Pressing the “Clear-PP” button stops calling the station. The Helper then can call other stations (but also the previously stopped station) if one of the stations on the lists sends CQ, 73 or RR73. I've tried deleting and redownloading the program and messing with settings, but I still have not been able to get the thing to quit doing pitbull qsos and actually recognize any changes in the config

dg5lp commented 2 weeks ago

Hi,

this is the intended feature of the „Pitbull“ function.

Pit bulls are known for their tenacity and refusal to release a bite, even in the face of great pain.(Wikipedia)

You can stop running pitbull QSO pressing the „Clear PP“ button. The original function is

removing stations from “postopne queue”, where stations were queued temporarily after several unsuccessful

QSO attempts.

Even in this case the station might be called again and again. Remove the stations from the “Prompt” and “Wanted”

lists.

73,

DG5LP

That would be great if I wanted a pitbull qso. I think the real problem here is really the program ignoring the config. I’ve changed various things in it and no matter what I do, it seems to be totally ignored by the program. It will call out forever in any running mode, even if I restrict the attempts

Starting any mode should stop „Auto Seq“ of WSJT-X.

The FT8-Helper use ist own automatic timing and repeating.

Please check on WSJT-X wheter „Auto Seq“ is checked.

The problem I see if this. When we have a call going to xx4xxx station and the timer starts on the 5 not answered call backs, if that station does another CQ, the timer starts over. I had the the helper running for 17 mins and it logged 2 stations. the older version worked much better because it timed out on the non-answering stations and moved on, even if they did another cq. This is an awesome program and the older version allowed me to run all day for 13 colonies and I had over 900 FT8 contacts in the 3 days of the event . However, the 2.6.1-8 seems to be barking up the wrong tree with this pitbull idea.

I think Ae4xo is correct about the additional cq breaking pitbull. But again, I have never once put it in dx chasing mode, and even if you add the offending callsign to the ignore list, it will immediately go back to trying to contact him. It's possible that the config is ignored only on a pitbull qso, but theres no way to know because you cant just have it run normally without pitbull. I agree, drop the whole pitbull thing and go back to what works. Thanks for the program though! It is a very good one for the most part

Use the „dx chasing“ mode only for the purpose it was developed:

Enter the required call-sign into the “prompt field” and start the “DX chasing” mode.

The required (rare DX) station will called as long the station can be received.

It only stops calling if the station disappears (5 times not received), but it will call

again if the station returns. Remove the entry from the “prompt field” if you want

stop calling.

I guess I wasn’t clear before. Dx chasing mode has never been used by me. I’ve never selected it, not once. Sent from my iPhoneOn Aug 26, 2024, at 11:52 AM, dg5lp @.***> wrote: Use the „dx chasing“ mode only for the purpose it was developed:

just got done with a test. only 6 stations in 45 minutes of calling, with nothing in the dx wanted field .

dg5lp commented 2 weeks ago

What was the priority of the stations? Were they red, green or ocker?

New DXCC stations and all higher (New ITU/CQ zone) priority stations are handled always as „wanted“

if the corresponding color is selected in the WSJT-X “Color Settings” menu.

Deselect all colors above “New Grid”.

ae4xo commented 2 weeks ago

ok i will change the color option and see if thats better. thanks!

ae4xo commented 2 weeks ago

THAT WAS WAY BETTER!!!! 9 stations in 18 minutes!!!!! The only color I have on the left now is light blue when its a CQ caller

Rockstarminerals commented 2 weeks ago

I’m glad that worked for you. I’ll have to give it a shot when I get home. Idk if this is a pain or not, but I would like to suggest an option to enable or disable using Pitbull so I don’t have to change color schemes all the time. It’s kinda nice to know whether a station is a new call for band or a totally new dx entity before calling them. Sent from my iPhoneOn Aug 26, 2024, at 2:21 PM, ae4xo @.***> wrote: THAT WAS WAY BETTER!!!! 9 stations in 18 minutes!!!!!

Yes changing the colors helped tremendously. It still gets stuck on a station sometimes, but much better!
