Hello, I'm interested in buying this model of laptop to turn into hackintosh. I wanted clarification on your guide, in addition to Wi-Fi and Nivdia Optimus there are no other compatibility issues? The gpu gtx 1070 and ssd work at full performance? Thank you very much for helping!

Hi Sorgaz, this guide is still very much in progress.

I've been playing around for a while to get this to work properly, but the current status is that the internal Wi-Fi (Intel) isn't compatible so I'm using a USB Wi-Fi dongle that works perfectly. Nvidia Optimus also doesn't work so it's always using the Nvidia GPU instead of switching to Intel.

The main problem so far is the trackpad. I've been searching for ways to make it work, but since it's a new model and is using a new type of trackpad, the support isn't there yet.

On the audio, the maximum I got was to get the headset (sound+mic) to work flawless, but the internal speaker and internal microphone have a few issues.

To be honest, I haven't tested the GPU and SSD to be able to answer about the performance, but I can run some tests.... since it's not 100% yet, I haven't used the computer as a workstation yet to get performance issues, etc - but I can run a few tests for you.

I really like this laptop, I was expecting a bit more of the GPU - currently running BF V on 60-80fps on Medium, BF 1 on 80fps on High and CSGO on 130-200fps on Very High, but the overall performance is really good. Its fan is very noisy when on overboost, but if you are playing with a headset you usually don't hear it.

I'm happy to help if you have any other question!

Hello and thanks for the reply. I'll explain my situation my macbook pro late 2011 after seven years of service has presented the problem of posting the GPU. I can not afford a mac of equal performance, it costs twice as the new macs have the components soldered and it is not possible to upgrade. I have been informed about "windows" notebooks because they have high-performance hardware and can upgrade over time. I need a laptop because I use it for work, I do 3D modeling and rendering of architectures. After seven years of IOS I'm sick at the thought of using windows and I wanted to create a hackintosh, never done before, with dual boot (since some programs are only for windows) to use IOS during the production of the works, so I mainly care that the dedicated GPU (the gtx 1070) works at maximum performance. If this is not possible, I can move to windows just to run the calculation process.

Summarizing over not being able to use the wi-fi (solvable with the external USB antenna), the integrated video card (which I do not need) and the new generation trackpad, which we hope will be emulated in the future, while I can use the mouse are not there any other problems? I'm sorry for the audio but I hope there will be a way to fix it sooner or later.

Latest question from neophyte, once done the hackintosh the windows features have repercussions or works as if it were new?

Thanks infinte for your help

I see what you mean... to be honest, I don't have the answer to that. I have friends running MacOS on PC desktops flawlessly, even doing 3D rendering and working with heavy PSB files, but I don't think I have this performance yet on my laptop - laptops tend to be way more complex for Hackintosh builds.

Mine is working, but I feel that it's a bit slow and there are processes impacting performance... it may be that I can find a way to make it work better later, but so far it's working more like a side project that may work well in the future than a full workstation.

Regarding the impact on Windows... most of the guides/instructions ask to disable Fast Start-up in the Bios and in the Windows config... this means that booting up takes much longer than before. Not an issue, but instead of 3-5 seconds to boot it's taking around 10 now. Also, I noticed that if I boot Windows via Clover then Windows Updater can't update the system properly, but if I run it outside Clover than it works without problems. Again, not a big issue since I can simply boot outside Clover when I need to run an update.

If you have any type of benchmark or software that you want me to try here and see how it does I can show you in videos so you can check performance and see what you think.

Cheers

Hi Sorgaz, just an update on this for you. I've installed the MacOS in the main hard-disk that is an M2.SSD and the performance improved drastically. Also managed to get the sound to work so as it stands the only pending issue is the trackpad (that doesn't look like it will work soon). I'm happy to run some tests here in real work if you want to get more info on performance.

Cheers

Hello dggomes, I thank you for the precious information you left me and you definitely convinced me to buy this notebook. Your guide is a valuable work to try and make my first hackintosh. I ask you two things: first if you can do a test with Cinebench R15, second if you can explain me, or where I can find a guide, on how to start windows without clover. I am informed, if you may be interested, on some internal wi-fi cards like Broadcom DW1510 and Atheros AR5B95 that say compatible with the OSX versions from 10.5 to 10.9, as soon as I have the computer I'll let you know about it.

Thank you so much, your help has been fundamental and I know that I can count on you when I make this hackintosh.

Thanks again and I wish you a good day, Cheers

That’s cool, yes, happy to help. Can’t guarantee that I’ll have answers for everything, but should be able to help.

Cinebench is giving 87.84 FPS and 1074 cb, not sure if this is good or bad haha

Running Windows outside clover on this laptop is easy. You can add new paths directly in the BIOS or using an UEFI app on Windows. I’ve left two options in my bios, one for the Windows Boot Manager and one for clover. It goes automatically to clover booting windows, but if I want to boot directly to Windows I just need to press ESC when the computer turns on and select the Windows Boot Manager option instead of Clover.
