i assume that this problem can be related with x86_64, as on i686 everthing
works
correctly

Did you use the latest trunk version of Lazarus, or Lazarus 0.9.26 from
repository?

Using lazarus-svn fixes this issue, but I am now constantly getting a popup
dialog
that says "Invalid Character 'n'" and I can't connect to the server. I also
get this
popup on i686 from time to time.

The console says:

(transgui:15893): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_view_column_set_fixed_width:
assertion
`GTK_IS_TREE_VIEW_COLUMN (tree_column)' failed

lazarus v0.9.27 r19010 x86_64-linux-gtk 2 (beta)
