Hi everyone, I have several questions regarding the setup to use this tool:

  1. Has someone found a way to use the Intel 5300 NIC externally, for example with a PCI-to-USB adapter? I have seen the post about it but in the end there is no clear answer.

  2. Nowadays are there still laptops that are built with the Intel 5300 NIC by default?

  3. If you replaced your wifi adapter with the Intel 5300 NIC, which laptops brands did you used, and which brands support it without whitelisting? Currently I'm using a HP laptop but it seems to be whitelisting the possible WLAN adapters and the Intel 5300 is not supported thus the system will simply not boot due to that.

  4. Where to find this Intel 5300 NIC nowadays? I have not been able to find any vendor providing the same layout of the chip as presented on the tool's website ( https://dhalperi.github.io/linux-80211n-csitool/ ). However on Amazon there are chips like 533AN_HMW that seem to be based on Intel 5300 but did someone tested one of them successfully? (like https://www.amazon.fr/Intel-533AN_HMW-802-11n-carte-r%C3%A9seau/dp/B0030F396O/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1536934581&sr=8-10&keywords=intel+5300 )

Thank you in advance for your help!

1) I do not recommend using the PCI to USB. See: (https://github.com/dhalperi/linux-80211n-csitool-supplementary/issues/153) and (https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/26961/wifi-module-says-mini-pci-e-format-with-usb-host-interface-what-does-this)

2) No. You can find with older laptops year 2009 or higher. List(https://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/general/5300_laptop_list.pdf)

3) The above link is the list of laptops supported, but I believe "in general as long as the laptop has 3 antennas, then there is a high chance that it might work".. Sometimes, you can modify the bios which is a risk but it works. I tried with bios mod with x220 Lenovo which has 2 antennas and it worked. See for supported bios mod and removal white list: (https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Custom_BIOS),(http://x220.mcdonnelltech.com/resources/) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsCfFOywZs0)

4) I bought it from second hand local website but you could find it on amazon, or aliexpress. There are two versions: 533AN_MMW (PCIe Mini Card form factor) and 533AN_HMW (PCIe Half Mini Card form factor).
