What steps will reproduce the problem?
We don't yet have a Nexus One, so I wasn't able to reproduce.  I'll mark this 
as a low priority until we can replicate.

I saw this (-38, 0) while testing in the emulator the other day. It stuck around
until I restarted the AVD, and seemed to be a connectivity issue with the 
streaming.
It was a 2.1 image--I don't know if it also happens on older OS releases.

The (-38, 0) error looks to be a threading problem.  It's generated by the 
MediaPlayer when somebody asks the MediaPlayer to do something while it is in 
the wrong state.  To reproduce, tap on a stream rapidly multiple times and 
you'll almost certainly generate it and sometimes a crash.

If you leave the Nexus One on a station stream, seems to generate a 1,-11 error 
before 10 mins of audio playback time.

I get these two error messages almost every day when I use the App. Having a 
more meaningful error messages would really improve the app.

I use it on a 2.1 Samsung Captivate, in an area without 3G coverage (Edge 
only). It happens when walking the dog around my neighborhood at random.

But it always happens when moving from the outside area - with ATT providing 
the signal -- to my home, with a wireless router providing the data. The app 
seems to be dropping during the handoff from ATT to router.

For the record (1,-11) means that the PV player timed out.

This may be fixed as of r99. 

When a network connection change causes the media player to error out, the 
PlaybackService logs the error but lets the OnComplete call go through. 
Practically, this means that there is no longer a dialog message and that the 
player should automatically try to pull up the next track/story segment/etc. 
(if there is one).

From a user experience point of view, we may want to try to re-start the 
current track rather then skip to the next one.

I also have this problem with my Tmobile G1. It seems to be related to network 
connectivity. It comes up when I'm using the station streaming feature. It 
would be nice if the app would automatically restart and reload the most 
current selection; when this happens to me, I have to suffer through the rest 
of my motorcycle commute in silence..can't exactly restart the app on the 
freeway!

I have a droid two and I'm no longer able to listen to any streams I just 
continually get a "Received Error: 1, -1."  I have already tried to uninstall 
and reinstall the app to no avail

I saw this error on an Incredible on 12/22.  I was streaming KPCC and hit pause 
on the stream. The 38,11 error popped up and stream began playing again and i 
could not stop it. after a few minutes the message went away and i was able to 
stop the stream and quit the app. I saw this error also while streaming WAMU.

I've also.seen this error.  It usually happens when changing between wifi and 
cdma (I think).

When it does I can cancel the toast (using the back button) and the player 
usually advances to the next playlist item ok.  Can the toast with the error be 
shown without halting for user ack?  This would be a more "graceful" error so I 
only have to get my phone back out to hear that item; rather than hear anything.

I have the same issue (-38, 0) - Droid X.  The player will play if I wait, but 
the error message stays up until I press the back button.

I have Droid 2 and I get errors 1, -1.  I'm totally unable to stream NPR news 
although I can stream other things like lastfm.  I tried to uninstall and 
reinstall the app, but it didn't make a difference.

I was repeatedly getting both "received error: -38, 0" and "received error: 11, 
-1" after 10-20 minutes of streaming over wi-fi and I never stream over 3g. 
I fixed it a year ago but it returned after a hard reset and I forgot what I 
had done.

I figured it out.
I did two things. I deactivated my "wi-fi sleep policy" by pushing the menu 
button to get to the advanced page of my wi-fi settings.
I also extended the "turn off data connection when not in use" to one hour.

My guess is the NPR streaming app has difficulty switching between data 
connections in general. I'm pretty sure its the "wi-fi sleep policy".
Other users report experiencing the errors while using 3G or 4G. Perhaps the 
connection is switching between 4,3 or 2g, or perhaps they have the phone set 
to automatically switch to open wi-fi connections?

If you use 3g or 4G try deactivating the feature that switches to open wi-fi 
connections if available. You can use any cut to make a quick link to the 
setting toggle.

Hmmm - very interesting! Can anyone else verify this as a fix for streaming
issues they may be having?

Also, any dev folks think of a possible solution for this issue if it can be
replicated widely?
