Describe the solution you'd like

Support updating activity options and/or triggering a backing-off activity from a client. This is a concept Temporal is actively considering and still designing, so details are not present yet. This is merely an issue for public issue visibility.

Thanks for reporting this! We're actively considering adding support for updating activity options and/or triggering a backing-off activity from a client. We're still designing the specifics, but we'll keep you updated on our progress.

In the meantime, you can use the existing temporal activity fail and temporal activity complete commands to control the state of running activities. This may require more manual intervention than you'd like, but it's a workaround for now.
